Ugly stik has a super panfish combo in spinning and spincast for $29.99 to $39.99 these rods are in a lite and ultra lite actions 4'6" to 5'6" rod lengths!
H.T. makes a ultra lite line of rods but their reels are very poor quality!(rod prices from 19.99 to 29.99)
Berkley lightining rod in med lite to lite action from $22 to $35!
A good panfish reel a zebco UL for around $19!
Okuma UL10 3bb for $19! Okuma UL 7 $29!
Quantums UL 3bb for $19!
These are just a few very good rod n reels to look at for the money!

For this price and selection should not be important. I have an still find it fin to fish for these puppies with a piece of line with a hook and work with no weight. I have used it wrapped around my finger or Tied to a stick. I have caught as many as a hundred of these in one day with this rig. Drop it in the water by brush or the shaded edges and you will have a great day. Save the rod and reel for larger fish like bass, trout and Muskie.

AI S has the right idea!
If you are ONLY gonna go Brim/bluegill fishing dispense with the reel altogether and just get an 8-12 FT cane-pole.
Heck! You may even KNOW someone with some Bamboo in their yard! Cut you a piece 8-12 Ft long and you are in business! Cost's NOTHING!
Canepoles work EXCEPTIONALLY well for children and "older" folk. Buy some mono, hooks and splitshot sinker's and your set!

I love Pflueger reels! I think they are very well made and fairly inexpensive, a good way for budget anglers to step up to the big time! I also go with Daiwa, Quantum, and Abu Garcia reels. As far as rods go I like Ugly Stiks as an "everyday, everyone can afford" rod. For my more technique specific better quality rods, I like Falcon, Fenwick, St. Croix, All Star, Shimano and Daiwa for their quality, toughness, and dependability. Much success to you!

You should be able to find a rod and reel combo for under $20. That's low quality though.

Anything made by Quantum is going to be your best value. They make the best product in every price category.
Ok I may be somewhat biased. Quantum is one of my sponsors.
