It made me a little uncomfortable. It's a little claustrophobic...kind of cool at the same time though.

The machine makes a lot of noise and it kind of feels like you're in a coffin. I don't want to freak you out, but I also don't want to lie to you. That's how it felt for me. And, besides, YOU asked =).

Anyway, in hindsight, I can suggest focussing on a "peaceful place" (wherever that may be for you) or envision what you will do when you're finished while the test is being performed. Maybe something over your eyes might prevent a claustrophobic feeling?? Maybe it won't bother you.

Besides this though? Well, bring a book. I assume you are getting it done at a hospital and in my experience with hospital appointments, there's always a bit of a wait.

Nothin' to it though =). Piece of cake.

Let us know how it goes when you choose best answer...

They would have given you instructions; but make sure you urinate before the test, as it can be long.

Don't know if what you'll have is an open or closed MRI, but either way, there will be a lot of noise, like jack-hammer pounding. Nothing to do about it, but best to ignore what you can.

Is test uncomfortable? No. There may be IV stuff needed, but nothing to worry about.

Best preparation, besides following the directions given to you: RELAX.

PS. If they haven't given you directions, ask.

There are MRI's, and there are mri's. About the only thing you need to know is exactly what they are analyzing for. Full body analysis is usually the roughest. In the older MRI equipment, you laid down in the middle and stayed immobile for about 45 minutes while they maneuvered you up and down the tube. It tended to be noisy. In the newer equipment, it is much less restrictive.

Keep calm try to relax. Take a pair of comfortable ear plugs. The doctor may have some generic ones that don't fit too good.

Noting unless your doctor has given you special instructions. MRI's don't hurt or anything. Good luck.

my MRI involved drinking slightly radioactive fluid to enable the system to identify problam. You will probably have no food or liquids other than water 12-16 huors before test.As long as you are not clausterphobic its just alot of noise
