What is the difference between the Beretta 92F and the U.S. M9? I was not aware of any difference until I saw both at a gun store.I asked the clerk but he didn't know the difference either.

yes the M9 is the military version of the 92F, I was wondering if there were any any differences between the civilian version and the military version.

The M9 is just the US Military designation for the Beretta 92 pistols they use.

The M9 is a specific sort of Beretta 92 if you buy one specifically.

The M9 will be blued, manual safety etc.

If you buy a 92 you can get different variants and such, but the M9 is just the type used by the US Military. No big differences from one to the other.

There IS a little difference...
92F is issued since the eighties, after other versions (92, 92S, 92S1, 92SB), and is the model who did whole US trials.
To be adopted as M9 the US government asked a further safe: if you look at the left side of the stock, in M9 u should see that the "stud" of the hammer (partially hidden under the left grip) has got a larger "head", who inserts itself into a groove on the (bottom) left-rear side of the slide. this is previewed for preventing damage in case of slide breaks.
On the civil marked this version is called 92FS and replaced the 92F. So, M9 is the military version of 92 FS and not F.
i apologize for any mistake, english is not my language and unfortunately i don't have the dictionary here!! i hope i explained myself.

US M9 is Beretta 92 FS. It has a slidemounted ambidextrous safety that doubles as a decocking lever.

Same exact pistol, only difference is on the slide instead of being stamped 92F it will be stamped M9P Government. My armory had both versions. Although the civilian version we got much newer had a plastic spring guide instead of the metal one we were used to.
