Easy. "Limbo" is not doctrine or dogma. It is simply an idea that emerged in some Catholic writings and traditions. Never possessing an official status theologically, it is very simple for him to say that the concept is not licit.

I've always been troubled by the idea of limbo. It is not described as an unpleasant fate, but it did suggest unbaptized babies still managed to spend eternity apart from God. Scripture seems to suggest that's not the way God looks at it (for instance Jesus always saying, "you must be like this child," or "Let the children come to me, for such as they are of the kingdom of God.")

Still, it is a thorny issue for Catholicism, as we do look to baptism as a salvific essential. I guess baptism by desire will be our doorway out of this problematic area.

The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)

For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.

Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.

The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.

With love in Christ.

The Pope is getting rid of something that grow to be placed in existence by using adult adult males, Limbo grow to be a thought that each and all people who die pass to there to look ahead to their 2nd of atonement. the reality of the the situation is that there is not any time factor in dying, there is not any time while on God's time, so why could you placed able to attend. this is been excluded from Catholic concept for hundreds of years now, the Pope is in basic terms removing something that for the period of no way existed. the seen waiting in basic terms in no way made experience, in a undying place. God bless continuously.

Limbo is not in The Bible... Why would you buy into something that is man made? If it is not in the bible then he should do away with it.
