Now why don't airlines section off a part of coach class and designate it the family area so all those with kids (screaming kids) could sit and not worry about bothering others? I hate to travel with my son because I know he doesn't sit still and he will eventually cry and I feel bad for the people around me trying to relax and/or sleep. I would be less stressed in an area where there were other kids and where I wasn't bothering anyone sort of like the cry room at certain churches.

At least airlines should offer parents the option to sit all together so those of us who do care about disturbing others won't feel so bad. I don't suggest those seats be empty while the rest of the plane is full but when filling those seats they should explain to the passenger that it's in the family section and the passenger can decide to go or not when no other seats are available. I know it would not prevent all parents with children from sitting in the non family area (in case there is no space) but again it allows those of us with kids to sit together and not worry. Also if airplanes did have such a section and no more space was available in that section when booking a flight, I would probably opt for another flight. It would all be a personal preference and no one would be forced or obligated to sit in that area.

This is the best and most logical question I have read in Yahoo Answers!

Outstanding point.

We can only hope they take notice of this question and put your great idea into action....

It is not economically feasible to do that. A plan is not like a McDonald's. There is very limited room and there is many times a great demand for that room. To designate one section as a children zone would tie up seats that they could have sold to other travellers. How would you handle the situation if all of those seats were full but there were other seats on the plane? Turn the person away and risk empty seats on a flight? Allow the person to sit with their kid in the non-kid section and make the whole point of a kid section moot? How would you handle a traveller wanting a seat but all that is open is in the kid-section? Give the person a discount for being forced to sit in the kid section? Do you allow empty seats to fly with customers on the ground wanting them but can't because the kid section was full? If so then you will need to increase ticket prices. There are too many flaws for this idea to work.

Your lucky if you can sit with your kids. I was traveling with my two infant children and one(11/2 yr at the time) was one row in front of me and the other(5 months) was assigned a seat at the complete oppisate end of the plane. It took about 4 hours to get it so we were seated together. (I always get to the airport with more than enough time to get through security).

Its a nice idea, but not a practical one.

Airlines don't actually care if you are comfortable or not. They just want your money. On a flight back from spain they put me one end of the plane, my husband and our daughter at the back our children scattered all over the place and my little three year old on his own! We all stood up and refused to sit back down until he was seated with one of us. The plane was delayed because of their arrogance.

not cost effective. will you be willing to pay an extra $400.00? the cost of actual habitable area (sqft) of an airplane is roughly $3,200.00 spread over a 15 year lifetime. this is the main reason why first and business class are prohibitively more expensive than coach.

What you should really do is; write to each airline about your concerns and ask if they could develop an area which is 'sound proof' for parents with children to be in while in flight.
Something like a separate baggage compartment.................

I agree. i would be so worried to take my 9 month old on a plane because i have no idea how she would act. she would probably drive everyone insane! she's such a light sleeper.

That's a really good idea. Maybe you should contact your favorite airline and give it to them... or sell it to them.
