The primary difference between the two is that YOUR actions cannot damn me to Hell. It is possible, however, that your actions could force me to live on a hellishly hot Earth. See?
It could also be argued that iron-clad proof isn't entirely necessary. After all, how do you know that driving your car into a tree at top speed is going to be painful and expensive? Do you have any proof whatsoever that YOU driving YOUR car into a SPECIFIC tree will have those effects?
If the only way to obtain absolute proof of a fiasco is to have the fiasco, then maybe it's a good idea not to be quite so demanding of absolute proof, neh?

I don't know if "we" will all perish in flames, but it's a good bet most of the earth will. We as a species will be long gone by then. The sun will swell up into a red giant and incinerate everything. Now that does not necessarily detract from the message of salvation. We should repent of our sins and sinful nature inorder to please God. God did say the next time the world would be destroyed would be by fire. If the supervolcanoe beneath Yellow Stone National Park blows red cynders will fall all over the world causing wide spread firestorms. And it is not a prediction of "if" it will explode, but "when." So no matter how the end comes, whether through Divine intervention or because of something that can be explained scientifically don't you think it makes pretty good sense to opt for Pat's position?

If Osama is right, should we all become Muslim?
Nah. Seems like Muslims spend a lot of time with conflicts, Sunni versus Shiite, that sound a lot like Protestant versus Catholic.
On the other hand, the best way to corrupt a faith is from within (see Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell as examples -- oh yes, and our buddy Osama too). We could all convert and that would fix the problem. But, only until someone thinks they have a pipeline to God and decide to force their interpretation of the faith on the rest of us.

REPENTANCE comes with a PRICE. That price is, MAKE the changes that will improve the situation. It doesn't do much to say I'm sorry and NOT follow it up with actions. That's ONLY giving lip service. The problems of this world are NOT wholly the result of SIN. They are the result of a lack of understanding, compassion for your fellow humans, the failure to CARE for the world that we live on. If you wish to repent, FINE, but; follow that repentence up with action. CHANGE your ways. BE more tolerant. BE more compassionate. BE more loving to the planet.
Remember repentance NOT followed up with action is NOT repentance but is hypocrisy.
