Statistics show that people don't hate "their agent". It is just the perception that insurance salespeople and used car sales people are very similar. They are only after your money and trying to make lots of money for themselves. This is not the case with most agents. Most are very ethical and want to do what is right for the customer. It is like the old saying "one bad apple spoils the lot". What you hear about are the bad apples not all the good ones.

Go take a look at what the Federal Government said about insurance companies in the late seventies. Then try to find any information by the government about insurance companies, after 1980. You can't do it. The insurance companies did not appreciate the truth coming out in the late seventies, they used their money and power to shut up congress.
This document uncovered how the insurance industry fleeced the American public by charging high premiums, for little coverage and the money accruing in cash value policies returning next to nothing in interest. Fortunately, they did comment on how term insurance helps families. Especially, when the families are taught, and with the help of their agents, to invest their money into mutual funds.
They hate insurance people for reminding them that they will, eventually, die; that the survivors will remain and, in some cases, have a hard time to make ends meet. I guess simply put, that agents use emotion to sell their products. But what is really bad, is if those products do not significantly improve the families financial situation in case the worst does happen.

They hate the companies because they strive at all costs too make money, and not support claim holders. Insurance companies have fought laws that would give innocent victims their due compensation, lobbying to get such laws as Proposition 51 passed in California in 1988(1).
We are forced to pay for them (as with car insurance) or must pay for them to avoid impossibly high medical charges, yet get little in return. Insurance should put our fears to rest, not give us worries about wrenching much needed money from them to cover serious injuries and damages.

Insurance is buying something that is non-tangible and cannot be seem. And it's years before people see the benefit. Thus if the agent is not tactful enough, no one have the patient for the detail explanation, and they become a pest.

I think a lot of people get the impression that agents are tyring to sale a service that will benifit the company not the policy holder. In other words what is good for your commission might not be what I need!!

All insurance companies are built on the premise of extortion...paying money for protection. No industry that is built on that, once deemed a criminal activity, will survive. I eagerly await it s demise!

Insurance for most people is a necessary evil. They hate paying premiums for something they may not ever use.

Because you pay them money for a service you hope you never have to use. And when you do have to use it, it never pays as much as you think it should.
