I would love to get a half sleeve someday. I have one tattoo on my arm (an old school "I Heart Mom" with a swallow) but I would like that arm sleeved out. Do sleeves have to be drawn up all at once, so that they kind of have a theme? or can i just get a bunch of tats on my arm on seperate occasions and maybe have some kind of background freehanded in?
I suppose it would mostly depend on the artist, but I mean, usually?
For those of you who are about to write something like "don't get a tatto they are evil and now you have hep B" or something like that, don't. I already have 8 tats, and plan on getting more. you people shouldn't even be reading these questions. Instead, spend the 8 minutes you would have spent fuming about my question doing something constructive. Go start a blog or something.

Everyone here's pretty much got the right idea. Random tats or themed, it doesn't really matter as long as it represents you. I, personally, would think a sleeve with the same theme would be pretty cool. Say, for instance, I got a sleeve for my military background. It could have the Cav symbol and the Military Intelligence symbol and all that stuff. Then the other arm I could dedicate to huge events in my life. The death of a family member, the birth of a child. Whatever. Find an artist you like and trust (with 8 tattoos, you probably already have) and talk to him/ her about the possibilities. Then email me some pics. I've been wanting to get some work done too.

I have friends who had several tats on their arms. Then they found an artist they really liked and the tattoo artist came up with a background to tie them all in.
Or you could start with a theme in mind but only get sections done at a time. That way is a lot cheaper too.
I love body art, good luck!

I LOVE TATTS !!!! im actually wanna start a sleeve of my own . My husband has a sleeve and he basically figured out a theme he wanted and then got tatts doen at diff times that fit in, Im gonna do the same thing. You can do it any way you want. If you know what you want sure u can get it drawn up and outlined all in one day but it might cost u a bit much and if u can space it out then why not. Good luck its gonna look awesome i cant wait for mine.

I don't mean to criticize, because far be it for me to deny you the joy of flaunting your super hot legs, as you say. I'm all for that! I love ink of any kind, any place. BUT, I find that males tend to get more full leg tattoos than women. It isn't that it's taboo for women to do this, quite the opposite, but I personally think that women's legs are beautiful with simple tattoos to accentuate them, like ankle tatts or something on one side that travels up the calf, or something that starts at the knee and trails up to the hip. Maybe it's just me, but I think sleeves are the epitome of cool. Still, if what you want is a leg stocking, then by all means get it. Tattoos are about self-expression and you can't express yourself by doing what others think, can you? Best of luck with your sleeve and/or stocking.

Tattoo sleeves are SO hot...definately do it! Personally, I think if it is drawn up in advance it looks better, but either way is not bad.

you can do a sleeve either way, with all one central theme and idea or with separate ones with one common background. i personally prefer one central theme or idea because it looks more cohesive. people who get five or six separate tattoos on one arm and then tie them all together with a background seem to look less... polished.
