Chevy has had a full size (1500) a mid size (colorado) and a small truck (S-10) Dodge has had the full size (Ram) mid-size (Dakota) and small (D-50) but Ford has never offered a mid-size truck, why?

Hmm. I have never heard of a D-50... I thought they only offered the ram and dakota. You learn something new every day lol.
I don't know, maybe cause they are too busy making suvs and they don't see a need for it. I think they already sell more trucks that any other manufacture. I agree with the answers above... the sport trac is kind of like a truck, kind of like an suv, but would fit the purpose of a mid-sized truck. And the superdutys are alot bigger than the 150s.

I'm going to look up the d-50 now. Ohh those things. Do they still make them?

If the ranger is a midsized truck, then aren't they now missing a small truck? They don't make anything smaller than that, do they? The ranger is a small truck, at least in my opinion.

Because there is really no good reason to buy a midsized truck. I had a Dodge Dakota, and now own a Ford F150 and even going from a 6 cylinder in the Dodge to an 8 cylinder in the Ford there really wasn't any noticeable fuel savings. A full sized truck has better towing capacity, better load capacity, and usually room for more people to sit comfortably. I really don't think I would ever buy another mid-sized truck. If you are not buying a truck with the intention of hauling things, or towing things you should stick with cars, they will save you some dough on gas.

No brand has a mid size. Chevy dropped the S10 to make the Colorado. They are both small size trucks. The D50 you are talking about was dropped back in the early 90's I think. The Dakota is also a small sized truck.

They do offer a mid size truck.

Compact - Ranger
Midsize - F-150
Fullsize - F-250/350 and larger

Park a 150 next to a 250 and look at the difference.

They do the Ford Ranger is their mid-size truck. I have one myself and if you need to buy anything for it you have to look under Ford Ranger (Mid-size truck) just to find the right parts.

qctually toyota/ford/chevy dont make a midsize truck, those are all compacts. nissan and dodge are only makers of a midsize truck, and of them the dodge is best. have been making them since the 80's and availible with v-8 power.

They do! It's called an Explorer SportTrac. It's like a 4 door Explorer cab with a small pick-up bed attached.
See the link:
http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/sporttrac/

Here's how it stacks up to the competition:
http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/sporttrac/compare/details/?vehicles=18838|19788|19593|20380
Did you notice the turning radius?
How about the leg room?

In this comparison, I chose to compare the 'loaded up' versions, but you can alter the packages &/or go 4X2 w/ less options.
