A lot of planning with maximum affect or just a cowardly act? Bear in mind the US & UK navy forces fire missiles into cities from the sea killing/maiming equal, if not more, civilians than 9/11 x 10+. (this is not a question to provoke any racial hatred)

Don't get me wrong here, it was a terrible act but from a terrorists point of view it was brilliant.

The set out to not only commit mass murder but to do it on such a scale that it would get media coverage never seen before, disrupt travel, businesses, governments, countries, etc all over the world.

They certainly achieved all they wanted if not more.

Maybe because it was one huge incident (and not many small ones with an equivalent death rate and amount of destruction) it has made everyone think, plan and try every way we can to prevent it happening again.

Granted US & UK Naval Forces among other countries have been in the Persian Gulf region to protect the open sea lanes against terrorist which are the same people that claim to be a loving group and worship Allah. As far as cleverness, I think not. They just happen to get lucky and did not get caught before the horrendous and cowardly act against the civilian sector. Yes they hit the towers and that caused a domino effect with the other buildings in the area but the terrorist never imagine that, but the mere fact to strike a civilian building that has no military value and the intend to kill as many civilians as possible is just cowardly. They took years to come up with such a plan when the US and it's allies took only weeks to dissassembled the Taliban organization and return a proper government in place and we remove Sadam Hussein out of power waiting for the Iraqi people to unite and take over their own country.

It was certainly not clever... their target were civilians who were taken by surprise and without anything to fight back, only cowards sneak up on the innocent and defenseless civilians... They did not spent months... they spent YEARS... TEN YEARS planning it, to be exact, then they went into hiding... Only cowards don't face their enemy under attack... they sneak up and hit the innocent, then they run and hide. They definitely did NOT even achieve all that they wanted... after so much time planning and in preparation, they only accomplished 50% of the task in mind. And now, where is Binni???? He's either still hiding for his life, or already 6 ft under. That is not the work of a clever guy. To say it was would mean he would be roaming around with the croud showing his face up high and proud of his success... what success? Like I said, he failed miserably, only killing many, but not nearly as much as he had hoped.... and.... he's still nowhere to be found. The Coward!!

I would say cowardly act. That is my opinion. Face it... you did not see any of the brains behind the planning on an airplane that day. Instead you saw devotees to an ideal. One that has been pushed by hard liners in the middle east. Why" Because so many of the countries(not all...) still have sub-standard education in their rural areas. The poverty is horrible and the people are angry. Anyone who is angry over their situation is looking for someone/something to blame and the hard liners take advantage of this. Find young, not very well educated individuals who are upset with the way their life is going and tell them that all their problems are due to an "evil empire" who is working to exterminate their religion. The story is so transparent that it is laughable, but there are still people out there who are willing to believe that people thousands of miles away are out to kill them because of their religion. And who in their right mind would really believe that killing innocent people would buy them a place in heaven with a bunch of virgins.
Only a coward strikes at the defenseless non-combatants. Worst of all- they are so proud of their actions that in every video that they show they are afraid to show their faces.

Back when the Chinese tested their very first nuclear warhead, someone said, "but they do not have a delivery system", meaning that the Chinese did not have a sufficiently powerful rocket to sent their nuke to anywhere with.

Someone else suggested that the Chinese could simply fly their nuke in on a civilian flight.

Wake up at the back, can you hear me?

We must pay attention to what is said as it is being said and we must remember it. Failure to do so will result in further 9/11's and much worse.

Be prepared.

Both cowardly and clever.

Clever in planning to attack in a novel way with minimal costs or possibilities of detection. Using only box-cutters, they were able to have a massive impact.

However, attacking and killing civilians, solely for the purpose of killing civilians, without any intelligible goal of any kind, is stupid and cowardly.

As for your contention that US & UK forces have killed over 30,000 civilians (I'm assuming you mean in Iraq), I've never seen anything to support this claim at all. Regardless of the number, these casualties were incidental and unintentional.

There's a vast difference between killing civilians as being the only goal, and civilians being killed incidental to attacks on legitimate military targets.

It was extremely clever
If you think of terror attacks in the past none have come anywhere near this
9/11 was a terrible thing to happen no doubt about it
but these guys spend months on planning this attack
the detail and precision that went in to this has to be admired even though the consequences were terrible

If I'm not mistaken wasn't the Columbine massacre blamed on Marlon Manson instead of the law allowing gun ownership

Just thought that it needed pointed out that Americans do it to

Both. It was indeed an act of genius, but by cowards targeting innocent civilians.
And I believe if that hadn't happened then the war in Iraq would never have been started, GWB wanted vengeance.

Both, the attack was designed to take full advantage of our blind spots and weaknesses. But it was cowardly and evil. You don't fight a war by killing civilians who have nothing to do with the war. Also where is the honor in killing innocent people? It is a brutal act of war.
