Today, we took my auants dog she had for 6 years to get "euthanized". That means she practically took the dog to get a shot to die slowly and painless. it was so sad cuz we use to love that dog.

they had no other opition, the shelter wouldnt let anyone adapt the dogs that were all there, they would just kill them all. is that legal?

Euthanasia is not slow, it's very quick. Yes of course it's legal for animals - the primary reason for this is so that sick animals who are suffering can be put out of their misery. Anyone who's ever seen a living being suffering when close to death would understand why this is necessary.

What is it you're asking exactly? Are you saying there was a shelter that wouldn't let anyone adopt their dogs? There are shelters that do euthanase healthy animals - as I understand in some areas the overpopulation is so out of control there is no option. But areyou saying this shelter wouldn't let anyone adopt their dogs? I don't know about illegal, but it's certainly weird.

Why did the dog have to go? Was he ill? Most areas will have shelters with a non destruct policy.

You didn't 'used' to love that dog - you still do. The dog may be gone, doesn't mean your love is.

Well, I know that some dogs are unadoptable, such as dogs they caught that easily would bite someone and dogs that are very sick and even with treatment wouldn't live long. I'm not sure where you live but some states have shelters that strive to adopt all the animals they have and do not euthanize. I have adopted many pets in Colorado that were advertised in the local paper and found out later they were in that shelter for a good amount of time before I was able to adopt them. We also have a few pet stores that allow the shelters to bring animals to their store to try to persuade a customer to adopt them and they have a pet mobile that takes some animals to local events. I don't know if it's legal or not but check with your local animal shelters to see what is legal or not. Also see about writing your local government to make it illegal. The shelters here also make it a requirement to have the pet spade or neutered before adoption to try to reduce the number of pets in the area.

Yes, unfortunately euthanizing animals is legal. Many shelters have a no kill mission statement. However, if there are large amounts of strays and not enough people offering homes shelters are forced to euthanize to make room. The ASPCA offers programs where people can have their pets neutered/spayed for a good price. This keeps the amount of strays in the area down and leaves room for animals in shelters. You can find out more about these programs at your local ASPCA. Sorry to hear about your dog.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here. It is legal for shelters to euthanize animals. But let me clear up something for you euthanasia is not painful. The injection given is actually an overdose of anesthesia. First they pet falls asleep and then the heart stops. The entire process from the time the injection is give to the time the heart stops is about 15 seconds. Maybe less.

getting the shot does not mean it dies slowly, but it is painless - a very fast.

I don't understand the last part of your post but shelters do adopt out & they do euthanize.

sorry about your loss

sadly it is legal .i'm sure that some people would take an animal rather than see it put to sleep .it also had to be very hard for your aunt .bye

people murder humans, out of hatred what about that. when you compare all those cruel things, mercy killing seems to be a very compassionate act.
