Yes, Civilian Conservation Corps. And yes, it was a paramilitary organization, complete with uniforms and regimentation. And yes, it indoctrinated many a young man into the disciplines of military life.
My dad was one of them, he helped build the roads in Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction, Colorado.

Civilian conservation corps. They are responsible for building most of the national park facilities during the depression in the 1930's. The ccc was part of Roosevelt's New Deal to help get people to work and get the country out of the depression.

Civilian Conservation Corps. This was similar to WPA, it found work for people. The CCC was paramilitary in organization, and it did tremendous development work in the rural parts of America.
When war broke out, it was a given that the CCC would consolidate into the armed forces, and it did. The CCC ceased to exist in 1942, due to the "Emergency."

It was the Civilian Conservation Corps. It was a federal government program to employ people near the end of the great depression. They were used for anything from tree planting projects to bridge building, to community improvement projects. It had no military connection.
