Hi! Ohh yes, I do know how hard it can be to catch urine!! In order to catch urine it is best to use a wide, shallow container and get behind her as she urinates. Your Vet only needs about 1 tablespoon to run an UA (Urine Analysis).
Don't fret if you try and try and are not able to catch any. Your Vet can do a Cystoscentis, where they go in with a fine needle and extract urine directly from the bladder. This procedure is done without sedation and, honestly, dogs do not even feel the needle. Not only do I assist in these procedures, but my own dog went through it!!
No worries!
Golden... you crack me up :) I am trying to picture the dixie cup!!

If you are trying to do this yourself there is only one way to do it. And that's following her. Use a shallow pan or tupperware container that you can stick underneath her. Of course she needs to be on a leash so you are not chasing your dog all over the yard. If you are having a difficult time call your vet and schedule an appointment for the first slot of the day. Do not let your dog out to pee and take her straight inside to the vet. They can do a procedure called a cystocentesis. This is where they insert a needle into the bladder and collect the urine. It sounds horrible I know but we do this at my vet hospital all the time and the dogs usually don't seen to mind. If they are squirming or resisting we won't do it. Obviously you don't want to insert a needle into a moving pet.

we always use one of those double cat dishes. You know, the ones with two short little bowls connected to each other? That way you can HOLD one bowl and stick the other under her...
for a fussy dog, though, it can be a real challenge. Give her lots of fluids. Make her wait longer than usual before going out, then take her for a walk on a leash.
worst case, if you absolutely can't get her to go the vet can get urine with a needle ot a catheter...don't wait to take her in

I had to do this a few time and I just follow the dog around with a dixe cup and got really fast at collecting the urine. If you bring your dog to the vets they can do it for you.
Haha I knew Vet Tech would have a better way than a dixe cup! I wish I knew of that one when I had to collect urine.
LOL Yes I did have the dixe cup and it was winter too. LOL
Good thing no one could see me either. LOL

Gosh, this is a tough one. It's nothing to get a stool sample, but I've never had to do a urine catch. I guess I would just get something larger than your standard cup, like a big bowl, and sneak it under her as soon as she starts to pee. You may get your hands a little dirty, but thank God for soap and water. Good luck!

BIG long handled soup ladle, or my vet hands you a small longhandled pot.....
Clearly you want to mark either & NOT put them in the kitchen thereafter.
