It really depends on the daycare center. Also, is it a daycare center or a learning center or a child development center? Some daycares are just babysitting and there's no teaching or enrichment going on. My friend's daughter was recently in a place like that.

I've worked in several learning centers and child development centers. If I ever had children, I probably wouldn't send them to daycare or a child development center.

Look for NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Yound Children) accreditation. It's very difficult for a center to get, but if they have it, they're probably very good.

Well I have been working at a daycare for almost 5 year and I hear this question all the time. There are many many awesome daycares out there. THere are also those daycares that make to good ones look like a terrible place to bring your child. I think the main thing is to do your research on the daycare.... and if you dont feel 100% comfort dont PLEASE dont bring your child there.

My daughter's in K now but absolutely she was well cared for, loved, and attended to in daycare.

She often speaks fondly of it still.

She was there from 6 weeks until 5 years.

Furthermore if you think that your childcare is not providing for your child then why on earth would you send them there? I made a concious choice not to send my daughter to a home daycare (I know there are many many lovely providers) because I knew noone who did it. I didn't want my child in an environment where she couldn't tell me something was wrong. I felt more comfy with a center because people pop-in and out all the time and the areas are very open. That was just for me personally though.

Yes! With trained and qualified teachers I can easily say that.

Take a look at the post below, between the chores, cooking, yahoo answer writing, its easy to see kids arent getting full attention at home.

Plus it wasnt even until the industrial revolution that SAHM's even became an option. And only then were they in a slim income bracket between the mom not pushing the plow and making soap out of lard, then the parents with governesses.

When I had to use a daycare service, yes. I was always impressed that our daycare was very interactive with my toddler, and promoted a learning environment.

Absolutely not. That, combined with the fact that 95% of my husband's salary was going to pay for daycare, caused us to un-enroll our sons from daycare. My husband is now a full time stay-at-home dad.

I know how it is to care for my two sons (ages 3 and almost two) with my husband's help. I can't imagine what it's like for someone to care for FOUR toddlers (that's usually how most daycare centers are--one adult for four kids) with no help.
