I am a truck driver and I have to attend a safety seminar every 8months as a condition of my driving for this company.we are always advised that one of the most common accidents between truck vs.car is the rear end collision, which can simply be solved by increasing your following distance(no tailgating) sounds simple huh ? Pay attention to your surroundings, avoid distractions by staying out of LALA land, signal your intent before turning or changing lanes, dont read,do make up,dress,etc.. while driving.I see it all the time.Do not ride beside a big truck while going down the road,if the truck blows a steer tire guess who goes along for the ride (you do)when the truck swerves violently as the driver tries to regain control.Dont engage in road rage tactics wirth anyone, you quite possibly will lose.the truck is bigger, the other driver of whatever vehicle, maybe a nut and be armed.these are only a few safe driving tips there are so many more.Dont drink and drive...I see it quite a bit, also.you deserve jail. OH and hang up and drive, put down the cell phone

Always be defensive. Think that whatever can happen might happen. If you see a car at a stop sign think of what you will do if that car pulls out. If your following a car think what you can do if they slam on their own brakes. Eventually it will just be a habit and be normal thinking as you drive. Im not sure of what the most common accident is but i de know that most accidents happen in bad weather.

In accidents caused by yourself, I would say, not paying attention to traffic around you, cell phones, too much interaction with passengers, etc. With accidents caused by other driver coming you way, same thing, but add Alcohol and drugs to that mix. If we knew how many drunks were coming at us, out there, we probably would be afraid to go out on the roads.

Rear end on a highway.
Don't drive by looking at the car in front of you.
Hang back enough to see the whole picture.
That's why safety called for the break light in the back window. To wake people up just staring through the car in front of them.
Besides, you look down for a second, ( adjust radio), and they hit their breaks, your done.
So don't tailgate, and watch the road way out front.

Trying to multi task while driving. Stats among young people show that they get in more accidents while driving with friends in the car. It comes from not being focused.

The main causes for car accidents are high speed and alcohol. If you drive within the required speed limits you will always be able to maintain control of your car. And NEVER drink and drive.
