Hi,
Yes, and many Doctors will agree too. This is why God said that the sins of the Father will be visited on the sons and daughters for generations. These are learned habits that are totally dysfunctional, and can cause the total break down of whole families. God wasn't saying that he would punish kids for their parents sins here. He was trying to explain that the sins of the parents would have far reaching implications that could last for generations. He was trying to warn us, but many people try to say that God is not fair by punishing the children of sinners. This is not the case...in fact just the opposite...he was warning us just how bad sin can be.

All addictions can be broken with Christ.
So yes I agree that just because your dad was an alchoholic and you become one does not mean you were born to be one- but that you grew up around it and knew nothing else!
That is why God wants us as parents to raise our kids in righteousness- apart from the world.
Many make wrong choices, and those choices lead to addictions.
Even computer games can be an addiction! I know people who play on the computer 10 hours a day! That is horrible!
It's a choice, and it has consequences. But with Christ we are set free from these bondages, when we rely on Him and trust HIM to set us free and deliver us from these sins!
ALSO, I want to say that any addiction can be idolatry, because they are putting these things before God.

If we rememer the phrase "three days and three nights" is an expression of the disciples’ culture, rather than scientific exactness, then we should have no problem with understanding Matthew 12:40. The "sign" that Jesus gave was not the length of time that he would be in the tomb, but it was the fact that he would die, be buried and be raised to life. We need not be concerned about the exact time Jesus was in the tomb, for our salvation does not depend on that. What is important is that Jesus died and was resurrected to become our Savior (2 Corinthians 15:3-4).

I do not agree. Every individual must take responsibility for their own actions, and they alone will be held accountable before God. Therefore it is not possible to lay the blame of your sinfulness at the feet of your parents. That would be to shrink from your god-given free will.
If what you said were true, then I could blame all my sinfulness on others, and think that I'm am righteous, when in reality I am a fallen being, who must shoulder the responsibility for my own sin.

Yes I agree with you. Alcoholism runs in my family too on both sides. I have to be really careful and watch what I drink.

Yes, that is why the Bible says to train a child up in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart far from it. Children learn from their parents.
