Just one day, no religion, leave your opinions out of it. Don't you think we may have more in common and actually agree with other aspects of our lives, just for one day. No fighting, no hate, just people, all races and religions come together for one day. What do you think will happen?

A great question BTW.
The way I see it if there were no religion for one day there are a lot of people out there that would invent another religion. The loss of a supreme being can be too much for some people to handle.
Someone has to have made the sun come up in the morning. It couldn't be that the earth is just orbiting a huge ball of hydrogen that is constantly having a nuclear explosion.
Someone had to have made the rain fall and irrigate the crops, the natural sciences couldn't have anything to do with it.
Of course at this time in our educational evolution we know more about the sciences and no one thinks that the earth is the center of the universe anymore. Even though the last hope of the creationists is that "some one had to have caused the big bang" they are of the same mind set that believed that Thor was the origin of thunder.

Hi Illyria,
Apparently you've never visited the veggie section of Yahoo Answers. There's just as much hostility and insanity. The meat eaters feel the need to constantly question the sanity of the vegetarians.
Why can't they just leave us be?
Someone mentioned racism. There are places right now where people of certain nationalities are being wiped out. Genocide.
Sexism.
The "haves" vs. the "have nots."
Gangs are not formed based on religion.

Not fighting and having no hate are both rules of most religions our laws are based on religion and religion gives us the fear that not only will we be punished for our mistakes in life but also in death. So, if we honestly had no religion we would have no reason to respect each other. Furthermore, to have a day without religion we would have to forget Right from Wrong.

Why do most people agree that fighting and hate are bad? How does this common set of ideals exist? Can it be explained scientifically? Why is it pervasive in every culture and even a child knows these things?

You're assuming religion is the sole reason for much of the ills of the world. While that'd be quite convenient, it isn't. Human ego is. The extinction of religion could never take the human ego with it.

The former Soviet Union and China are both offically "without religion", did that lead to no fighting, no hate, and all races living life in peace?

I think all of us on R&S have more in common with one another -- religions aside -- than most of us would care to admit.

Racism will still exist. Irrational forms of thinking will still exist. While religion contributes largely to negatively impacting people's ability to think logically, it is not the only form of ignorance passed on from parent to child.

Yes. That's why I think all religion should be abolished. The world would be a much happier, more tolerant place.

Most are not strong enough in their faith to give it up for a day. They have no idea if God would get mad at the proposition, even. My God would encourage it, because I would be spiritually stronger when I returned.
