Chaldean Catholic clerics gunned down in Mosul

Mosul, Jun. 4, 2007 (CWNews.com) - A Chaldean Catholic priest and three deacons were gunned down in Mosul, Iraq, on Sunday, the AsiaNews service reports.

Father Ragheed Ganni and three deacons from his parish-- Basman Yousef Daud, Wahid Hanna Isho, Gassan Isam Bidawed-- were killed after celebrating the Eucharistic liturgy on Sunday.

As they left the church, the clerics’ car was stopped by a group of armed gunmen, who shot all 4 men and then rigged their car with explosives so that no one would dare remove their bodies. The car with the four murdered me remained in the city street, bearing witness to the killings...

sure would aske them to their faces, leave your scimtar at home you violent people. Now that is a generalization but after reading so many prideful comments by Muslims on other sites regarding their claims of a higher culture filled with honor, attacks just as this draws large doubts. A word of advise all Muslims let a sleeping lion alone. Your terrorism will awak the sleeping gaint of moderate Christianity which includes me!

It is quite common to find teaching in Muslim schools on the wrongs of the crusades as justification for the contiued violence, prejudice and injustice of Islamic nations towards Christianity today. In truth the crusades were a response to Islamic agression. Stop glorifying King Baybars, the assassins of Edessa, Saladin etc...

You're the one who sounds ignorant here. First of all, the article never said that the assassins were Muslim--you assumed that just because it happened in Iraq. In case you haven't noticed, the entire country is in the middle of a power struggle between various power-hungry sects, sects which, when they associate with Islam at all, twist and abuse it to meet their own ends.

Second of all, you broke one of the most important rules about making an intelligent argument: don't generalize, especially in terms of race, gender, or religion--the big taboos of today. Even if those terrorists happen to be Muslim, they don't by any means represent all of Islam. Here I'm going to assume you're Catholic or at least Christian, since you're reading the Catholic World News: aren't you aware that Islam is descended from Abraham, just as Judiasm and by extension Christianity are? They hold values of peace and mercy just as Christians do, so anyone who intentionally murders others cannot even be considered to be a true Muslim. The majority of Muslims are peaceful, normal people--they just don't get as much publicity because, guess what: they're completely average people.

Speaking of peace...remember Jesus' whole "turn the other cheek" philosophy? The spiritual works of mercy, "bear wrongs patiently" and "forgive injustices"? I don't believe there are any gospel teachings telling you to respond to violence by calling people who weren't even involved cowards.

Finally, here's an idea for you: your question is basically implying that because some Muslims (assuming the assassins *are* Muslim) have performed a cowardly attack, all Muslims must then automatically be cowards. Think about this, then: Francisco Franco was Catholic. Does that make all Catholics (for example, you) power-hungry and Fascist? Adolf Hitler was Christian; does that make all Christians bloodthirsty? And how about this: do you have any idea how many civilian casualties are caused every day in Iraq, by the war the United States started? Any average American want to take the blame for that, even if you are among those who were against the war from the start? Didn't think so.

All that said, I do agree that it is horrible to see four noble, truly peace-seeking men murdered in senseless violence. And I'm a Christian too, yet still defending Islam as a religion. The crime is disgusting and tragic; I'm not arguing that. What I'm saying is watch where you throw the blame.

that's pretty cowardly, but we have to remember that these are extremists andn ot all muslims are extremist of course. In my town the city chistmas tree was outlawed because it was seen as unfair to celebrate a christian holiday so blatantly, this angered many people as well as many of my muslim friends.

I think people need to realize that Pastor Billy's ideology is formed out of what is presented to him in the media. CNN transmits pictures of terrible bombings from that part of the world daily. Newspapers are filled with these stories; so it is understandable that to a degree we who no little about the faith and the culture are conditioned to think this way. We don't see fellow Christians flying planes into buildings or 14 year old martyrs; it is a insane to even think about. In the heat of the moment we can all say things with out being rational. The statement about catholic priests molesting children is ridiculous...priests are just men...men who molest children are monsters. Also anyone claiming one culture is better then the other is no better then pastor billy's whacked view.

I have problems with christian pastors that are hypocritcal, catholic priests that molest children....does that make aLL pastors and priests beneath contempt...no.
Your logic is the exact same logic these four men used when killing these clerics. "We dont like some of the things, some catholics do, so we hate them all"
