Actually we did know 100 years ago that the world was warming up. It was established back in 1896 by the Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius and had been speculated since 1811.
I know what you mean about coming out of an ice ice (although technically we're heading further into one - 50 million years of a cooling trend, the last 18,000 years is just a blip).
The 'ice age' began to come to an end 18,000 years ago and for the first 7,500 years the temperature of the world went crazy and rose by 7 degrees Celsius, for the next 10,000 years temps rose by one further degre C.
What we're seeing now are temp rises 17 times faster then when the world went 'crazy' and 156 times faster than over the preceding 10,000 years.
Certainly some of the melting is attributable to natural events caused by solar variation and the way the Earth moves and it would be foolish to dismiss these but natural events alone can not even come close to causing the rise in temps we've experienced since the Industrial Revolution began some 200 years ago.
100 years ago the science of global warming wasn't understood and if it had been suggested to a non scientific person that warming was caused by granite, waste or any one of a million reasons they may well have believed it.

Your right, the world has heated up since the ice age, but that process was done a long time ago. You are also right that as technology increases, so does the temperature. This is because of global warming, which is what happens when greenhouse gas emmissions (caused by technology and other sources) thicken the atmosphere. The sun's rays enter our atmosphere, and because of the thicker atmosphere, they are trapped inside and heat up the earth. That is just a rough explanation. Go here for more info: http://www.climatecrisis.net/
This process of heating up that you are describing is all because of global warming. Try cutting down on greenhouse gas emmissions, because whether you call it global warming or not, regardless of the causes, the earth is definitely heating up at an increasing rate, and the effects of the heating can lead to the devastation of life on earth.

Even if the earth is heating up naturally, it's heating up even more due to human activity than it would have. The historical correlation between carbon concentrations in the atmosphere and the increase in temperature is very very close, and right now carbon concentrations are going through the roof, and the only likely source of that rapid increase is human activity.

I believe that "global warming" is the result of the global destruction of forests and rainforests worldwide. do you realize how much was destroyed in the last 100 to 200 years in this country alone? Trees are a natural filter for carbon dioxide and when they are removed as fast as they have been in this nation, not to mention other nation around the world,we are bound to have problems. If the destruction of
forest and other wildlife sancuaries continues, i am afraid the conditions of our atmosphere will get worse. I am not sure that we can reverse this trend without the worldwide change in policies in conservation even if we were to change the way we drive ,cook andheat our homes. this, by the way is my own opinion.

Actually, there is significant scientific evidence which says that the Southern Hemisphere, including the South Pole, is cooling. It is only the Northern Hemisphere which is undergoing a warming trend.
And yes, there is also significant empirical evidence which supports the theory that our Earth is in a warming trend because in geological time, we have just now emerged from an Ice Age.
Global Warming is in many respects a "quasi-religious dogma" (source: Professor Thayer Watkins, UC-Santa Barbara). Check out Watkin's website, and in particular this webpage: http://www.applet-magic.com/thermohaline.htm
I whole-heartedly agree with Watkin's statement that: "Climatological questions should be dealt with on an empirical level because the climate system is so complex that perfectly plausible theoretical arguments are often incorrect." So if we take Watkin's statement as truth, then absolutely, you are correct in that modern-day climatology is at its infancy and thus, there can be no conclusive evidence to back up the notion that there is human-induced global warming.
When you politicize a topic, any topic, you essentially destroy its scientific credibility. When you have the media (oh yeah, they know how to report the truth?!?), political action committees (PACs), lobbyists, Hollywood celebrities, and now Yahoo! chomping at the bit to make global warming a hot topic that just must be addressed NOW or else we are all going to die...we can't rely on these groups of people to tell us what is scientific fact. In my opinion, if someone cannot give me INCONCLUSIVE scientific evidence from REAL scientists who value sound research practices that are not driven by government grant monies; that the Earth is indeed undergoing some form of human-induced global warming and that we can reverse its affects, then darn it, I'll eat my words and take it. But if I have to continue to hear quote, unquote "scientific fact" from a bunch of politicians (Gore, Pelosi, and now even Bush), then I have absolutely no reason to believe them or their scientists who have been paid (through government grants) to provide research that backs up their claims.
So in conclusion, you are not contradicting global warming as much as you are contradicting popular opinion. Refuse to accept everything you see, read, and hear on television and in the newspapers. Continue to critically think about global warming and who has a stake in making global warming an environmental hot topic. There is always a man behind the curtain saying "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain"...

Hmmm, I kind of think your question contradicts itself. You are saying that you are contradicting global warming, but then you say that the world IS heating back up.
If you are saying that you think global warming is just a natural earth cycle and it's not caused by humans, then why would the timing be now?
It seems too coincidental to me that it's happening at the same time as humans burning up all these dead dinosaur fossils that have been storing energy and heat in chemical bonds for millions of years.

going by the tree ring of old trees scientists found that it is possible to tell the climate as it was hundreds of years ago...im no scientist...but they make a good argument....they know that there where snap cold spells...they know there was drought in certain years...so I'm with them...i think they have it right...if i was to hear this information from a government i would take it with a pinch of salt....but scientists all over the world don't really have anything to gain by making outlandish claims about this or that...OK some could be doing it for notoriety.but not all

...um... you didn't contradict global warming. You just agreed with it. You said that you think the globe is getting warmer.
You MAY be disagreeing with whether man is involved or not. But in the final analysis, does it even MATTER if man is involved in the current warming?
Consider... what happens if the average global temperature increases by a hundred degrees? The Earth was this hot once too, you know. Don't you think that we should try and make sure this DOESN'T happen if it's in our power to do so?
Whether or not our influence brought us to this point, it is vastly in our interests to make sure it doesn't deviate too radically from where it is.

Don't ask global warming alarmist for proof there mate, just FYI...makes em cranky. Don't tell them that limited technology and record keeping may derail their ideas, they will just tell you that they can study sediments and things and guess it out. Don't tell them that the earth has gone throuh plenty of climate change before man was even a blip on the map, no no it gets em angry. what you do is, just smile and nod, and change your life to fit their will. Then they will be happy.

I'm going to make this short and sweet.
There are ice cores that go back a really long time, million and millions of years.
You can see the patterns.
The carbon levels in the past ten years haven't been this bad, ever. Millions of years not 100.
I can understand why'd you think that with recorded temperatures and stuff, but no.
