I know there will be a few who say that after life is nothing. Well, in that case...I wouldn't care, but there's no way to know for sure. Nobody knows for sure what happens.

but..

What's your opinion on the matter? Do you believe that based on our deeds that we are reincarnated as either a greater or lesser being or do you believe in Heaven or Hell?

My own personal opinion on the matter? I don't really know. I would like to believe there is a reward for being a good person, but it's hard to say for certain.

My mate is far more certain than I; he claims to know from experience that there -is- something beyond death. Not from he himself passing over, but because he is a shamanic practitioner and claims he has guided many people 'into the light'. He has said many times, though, that he has no idea what's on the other side of that light.

So perhaps the 'afterlife' is just that, a brief shadow of ghostliness before you move on into oblivion. Or maybe it's a gateway to greater, better things - or maybe to far worse. Who knows?

I think, really, that the best thing to do is just try to be a good person - in mind and body and spirit, whatever that takes. That way, if there -is- something beyond that gate, then you're probably in good standing for what awaits.

I'd go with neither, exactly. I definately believe we move on, or more accurately go home. My guess would be this is both heaven or hell depending on the types of lives we've led. After reading a heck of a lot on this topic, what makes the most sense to me is the theory that there are many levels based on our deeds and progress. I think it looks and feels as real as here, just that things are done differently. What we do physically here is done mentally/spiritually there. Hence the no pain, no sickness etc. And I totally believe if we've lived fairly decent lives we end up back with those we loved.

As in reincarnation--I'm not sure what I believe, beyond that whatever is out there is probably much bigger than our little minds can grasp now. I've always felt there might me alternate type worlds where things run differently, and depending what lessons we still need to learn we might eventually go to one of them or if we really need to back there. But I don't believe it happens like a revolving door. After all eternity is a long time to deal with.

What I can't believe is that we go through all this for nothing. To me that is what would make the least sense of all. I assume it's like most things...even here. When you are going somewhere no matter what you expect it's always a bit different and sometimes very different. So when it's time I think it will be fascinating to find out what exactly it is. And long as I meet back up with those that I love I'll be happy with whatever!

Both actually.

After we learn all of the lessons that we need to learn on earth (depending on how many trips that takes.) we eventually get to reside in a "heaven" and don't have to come back. Oh, and although some religions believe you can come back as an animal, everyone I've talked with says that animals are animals and humans are humans, we don't interchange. That's a spiritualists take on it. Take it or leave it, that's MY answer.

**Hey, kait. The guy asked for everyone's opinion. Not an argument that cites a book that people who disagreed with you in the first place probably wouldn't think is a valid resource.

From what I've read, I'd say there's enough "evidence" to go either way. There's been many documented cases of people experiencing past lives through regression therapy. There have also been many documented cases where people have had near-death experiences where they believe they saw glimpses of either heaven or hell. I'd say the afterlife is probably experienced differently for each individual. It is whatever you believe it is. When you're dead, the laws of physics doesn't apply. For me, I believe I've lived other lives before, so I figure I'll continue that trend.

There are many problems with the salvation-by works doctrine of reincarnation. First, there are many practical problems. For example:
1. We must ask, why does one get punished for something he or she cannot remember having done in a previous life?
2. If the purpose of karma is to rid humanity of its selfish desires, then why hasn't there been a noticeable improvement in human nature after all the millennia of reincarnations?
3. If reincarnation and the law of karma are so beneficial on a practical level, then how do advocates of this doctrine explain the immense and ever-worsening social and economic problems - including widespread poverty, starvation, disease, and horrible suffering - in India, where reincarnation has been systematically taught through out its history?
There are also many biblical problems with believing in reincarnation. For example, in 2 Corinthians 5:8 the apostle Paul states, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." At death, the, the Christian immediately goes into the presence of the Lord, not into another body. In keeping with this. Luke 16:19-31 tells us that unbelievers at death go to a place of suffering, not into another body.
Further, Hebrews 9:27 assures us that "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." Each human being LIVES ONCE as a mortal on earth, DIES ONCE, and then FACES JUDGMENT. He does not have a second chance by reincarnating into another body.

All of the above.

I believe we must reincarnate *MANY* times before we have learned all of our lessons and sufficiently purified our souls to return to Heaven. I do not believe in a physical lake of fire as Hell, but rather a state of consciousness (remorse, guilt, self-condemnation) that many souls find themselves in, both while in the physical body as well as beyond.

All souls will eventually reunite with the Divine Creator. Some simply toil longer than others.

I believe in reincarnation. I believe we live lives to make mistakes and learn lessons from them. After we learned what we was meant to learn then we are no longer reincarnated and are sent to a place similar to what Christians call "Heaven".

I want to believe in reincarnation. I think my opinion is based on philosphical reasons over religious ones though.
