Just tell the vets that you don't want an exam and to just give you some worm medicine for your dog. Mine gives me meds when I ask for them. Look up online what type of worm it looked like and tell the vet what kind it was (or you think it was). Call around until you find a vet that will give it to you.

Don't use the cheaper stuff from shops - it's cheaper because it's rubbish. Sure there will be people that can tell you it's worked for their dog - there are a whole lot more that can tell you it either didn't work and/or their dog was poisoned! Only use veterinary medication.
Your vet shouldn't necessarily have to see your dog to deworm. You should be worming regularly anyway - the vet can supply you with over the counter stuff to treat intestinal worms, heart and lung worms.
Get some proper medication TODAY and when the problem is sorted, continue to use it every 3 months so your dog does not get worms again.

This happened to my puppy. Only when she vomited there were like 25 worms that started crawling around. It really freaked me out. Just stay calm and try and get a sample in a plastic baggie to take to your vet's office. This is pretty serious is the puppy is throwing up the worms. I took my pup to the vet the next day.
How much does your pup weight? I had an English bulldog so she was pretty heavy probably around 30 to 35 pounds at the time. If you puppy is lighter then you may wanted to take him in the morning or today.
Don't get to worked up over it though. They will just give the pup a shot and worm it again. It doesn't cost that much. If you know someone whom vaccinates their own animals you may want to give them a call and ask about the worming medicine if you can't get in to see a vet right away. Don't let it go much longer though.
My puppy is still alive and she is doing fine after that happened to her.
Good Luck and I am sorry I know you're scared to death!

If it's simple round worms you can get medicine at petsmart. If it's tape worm you need medicine from the vet or maybe an online pet supply catalog. I'm pretty sure if it threw up a worm you could see it was a round worm so try that first. If you can't afford a vet, call all the dog places in the phone book; breeders, trainers, humane society, anyone who takes care of dogs on a regular basis should know how to worm a dog and will help you if you're nice to them and tell them you can't afford a vet right now.

u said u called the vet and its expensive i work as a vet if ur dog threw up and a worm was in it then ur dogs has a worm called round worm which is a problem that should be taken care of asap because humans can get round worms from their pets and not to scare u or anything but they don't really know where to live inside human bodies so they can reach ur eyes and even live on ur eyes so it should be taken care of by a vet their aren't any meds in the stores this is something u take to a vet asap.

Go to the feed store and ask them for wormer
Safe-Guard or Pana-Cure is usually the best bet as it covers the two most common worms, Roundworm and Tapeworm (plus some others).
Roundworms look like spagheti and Tapeworms will look like long flat, or look like "rice" in the stool.
Over the counter wormers will not kill your pet.. i'm not sure what that person is smoking.... I have used these products for years with no problems. Most of what you are getting at the vets office is the same thing with an uglier package. I purchase all my wormers from a vet catalog so I know what they offer.
If your dog is throwing them up then he has a LOT of worms and you need to worm him ASAP or he will get sicker.
You will probably need to do 2 treatments.
do the Safe-Guard for the alloted 3 days then wait the 2-3 weeks and do another 3 day treatment just to make sure you go them all.

Heres the problem with buying over the counter medications. . . they will not always kill the particular worm that your dog may have and in some cases these medications can be too harsh for the animal. . . I have heard of cases where the medication was so harsh for the animal that it eventually killed the animal.
Talk with your vet about taking post dated checks or offer to give them number to your debit card so they can charge it later for payment but take the dog to the vet. . . . in the long run it is the BEST thing to do and you will be glad you took this route verses taking the lesser expensive route.

You need to be able to tell what kind of worm it is first. If it is regular round worms you can get the meds for it at any store that sells pet supplies. If the worms are tape worms [flat like a shoe string] then you can get the meds at a feed store. Most employees at feed stores will be able to help you out on getting the correct meds and doses. Good Luck! I know it's hard especially when things get so costly. Moat meds at feed stores are fairly cheap.

No, I wouldn't trust some of the meds over the internet like from 1-800-pet-meds or somthing like that. I would just listen to your vet, and go with that. It will be the safest for your animal, and probably you too.

Please take your dog to the vet and pay the money. Animals are expensive and a life long committement. Worms can eventually kill your animal in a very painful death if they are not taken care of.
If you can not afford to properly take care of the dog, please call a local shelter for help. They can give you referrals to local vets who may treat for discounted prices or free.
