Because we as a species tend to project. That is, if WE were the aliens, we would behave exactly like in "war of the worlds". Don' tdoubt it for a second - we've done that and worse to our own kind, countless times. Do you think we'd be any more altruistic toward a non-human species?

its because people are scared of the un known, i mean if everyone met the boogie man or aliens they wouldnt be so scared cause i bet neither of them are as horrible as we think. also people are scared because of movies like war of the worlds and aliens tell us there horrible evil things wich i bet there not

Because films that have nice aliens visiting Earth are not as big of sellers unless they are Star Trek type of films.But people, men especially, crave big action and violence.I know.I am one of those men who crave action.But, if a real Alien were to visit I would say, "please take me with you when you go".

A species like ours getting carry of their technologies and bringing a clean nightmare to the galaxy. as quickly as we are down here, we would be managable, yet no civilisation could delight in this variety of barbaric species increasing up of their own back gardens.
