It all depends on what type spider it was, they have different poisons. A brown recluse will look red and small at first, but it does the damage under the skin. Whatever, if you even think it may be a spider bite, get it checked. A friend of mine waited and ended up in the hospital for 5 days (brown recluse). Don't wait.

It can look exactly like a non-poisonous spider bite. If you begin to feel other symptoms beyond the expected stinging and slight swelling, such as difficulty breathing, or extreme muscle pain, then go, or have someone else take you to the emergency room.

The only poisonous spider you will find here would be the black widow spider. But then again I dont know where your at. That could make a big differeance.

A writer on one of my gardening lists sent in a picture of a bite she got from a brown recluse spider. And believe me, that can get down-right nasty!
There is redness and swelling, then perhaps there is pus. And in the case of the brown recluse bite, tissue might even start dying.

It looks swollen, sometimes your skin may change color. If you do happen to get bit, do not move or the poison will spread through your body. Try to get help as soon as possible.

I was bitten by a brown recluse and it started out as a red and began to swell. It was very painful and the wound was all black and oozing fluid and took about 3 months to fully heal. I went to the ER after the it became very painful.
