I'm going to be nannying for 2 four year olds (boy and girl) (not twins, different marriages) and a 7 yr old(boy) from about 5 am to 6 or 7 pm. My main experience with children has been 2 to 3 year olds and infants! What do kids this age like to play with? To do? What are they capable of? I'd like some inexpensive imagination powered toy suggestions. Board games? Blocks? Help!

My expieriences have been that four year olds love movies. They clearly can't watch movies all day, but it's a good resort if you can't figure out what to do. I also happen to believe that movies are better than TV. I'm not entirely sure this will work for others(mostly because I like video games) if the seven year old is the video games kinda kid, ask him to teach you to play. If you're bad at it, so what? It'll give him some confidence(or maybe just inflatted ego?) When I was little I always felt good after beating my Dad at a video game. My head blew up to the size of a watermelon every time I got to teach someone older than me how to play.

Thats the best advice I have, and sadly it will only work for certain kids.

Good luck!

If this is over the summer a small pool in the yard will be of great help. Children get cabin fever being inside all day every day. Place the pool in an area of the back yard where you can see them from the windows of your house so if you must go inside for something you can still see them, and let them run, play and get wet for an hour. If you have a snow cone machine after the hour make snow cones and bring them outside let them eat while they dry off (ice pops work well also), bring them in when they have rinsed their hands (supervise so they don't get soaking wet again) and have them change and sit to watch a movie they will be nice and tired and very argreeable to a movie at this point, If they doze off all the better. Also they will probably be hungry after playing in the water so provide nutritious snacks they can have during the movie. Wal-Mart sells a pool that is about 18" deep and 6-8ft. wide. perfect for the toddler set and the older one can get wet if he wants. Don't forget sun block

I also second the list that was posted about what 4yos. like Play-doh is great and an easy clean up. If you have a play station of some sort have the older boy bring games he is allowed to play or make sure you check with his parents and follow your own house rules If you don't allow games rated Teen or MA then don't allow him to have those at your house.

Letting them all play together is a good thing too. Just be aware that the older boy will probably will want time to himself to play "big boy games". If you still have the 2 &3 yo. kids they will more than likely play with the 4yo. and look to them as big brother and big sister.

Wow. I'm just answering this with some ideas. I have no idea what nannying 2 4-year olds and a 7 year old kid takes. I guess you want an activity that involves them all.

What I suggest:
1) Sing songs.
2) If it's nice out side play some outdoor activity (make sure you apply the sunscreen lotion) throw a small ball around.
3) Supervised playground
4) Snakes and Ladders
5) Watch a movie
6) Bake some cookies (maybe watch the amount of sugar...hehe)

Hope some of those ideas help in addition to other answers from members.

Try making some homemade playdough. (Recipes for this are online, just Google it)They'll love it! Or if it's nice out, sidewalk chalk is always a winner. Tossing a ball around (kick-ball size) is lots of fun. Take them to a playground if you're allowed to leave the house with them.

I have lots of other ideas at home in my lesson plans. I'll have to look for you.

keep the 4 year old busy and just tell the 7 year old that he will be your helper and talk to him like a older brother or a big kid
