It's very hard to leave your pets behind. For many of us they are like children. The best way to relieve your anxiety is to know your pet will be well taken care of. You have several options depending on your financial situation. First there are the boarding kennels. Make sure you visit the facility unannounced. If they won't let you take a tour don't take your dog there. Call your vet they can usually give you a referral to a good kennel. Your second option is a pet sitter. Sometimes if you just ask you will find out a staff member at your regular vet does pet sitting on the side. If not your vet will have numbers to pet sitters in your area. Trust me they get plenty of calls about this. There are two types of petsitting services. There are pet sitters that will come to your house at different times of the day to walk, feed, and play with them. Occasionally you can even find pet sitters that will stay at your house. I used to do this type of pet sitting before I was married. I worked at a vet hospital so of course I had to work during the day but then the rest of the day I was with the pet I was watching. I had a lot of fun doing it. I got to know so many clients and their pets at our vet hospital so much better than just at their yearly checkups. Oh yeah don't forget to ask for references if you hire a pet sitter.

I know what you are going through! I had to move once and leave my pup at a kennel while we found a place! Horrible!. The best advice i can give is to make sure that whoever you leave your pup with, will take as good of care of them as you would. Also, I slept in an old shirt and left it with my pup so she could smell me while i was away. I also left her favorite chew toys and her blanket she slept on. That way she at least had familiar smells and items around her. You shouldnt feel guilty. When you return home she is gonna give you sooo much love!

Make sure before you leave that she spends a lot of time with the person you have her being watched by. A good idea it to sleep with a towel or one of her dog toys a few nights, then lay it in her kennel or in her favorite spot. That way she can lay by it when she's lonely and take in your scent. If she's going to stay with someone, pack it into her supply bag for the dogsitter. You can also make a message for your dog that you can ask to be played every day. There are plenty of good ideas to keep her from getting lonely. Just be creative.

Take a picture of your pup with you. Leave something of yours with her, maybe a shirt or something with your scent on it. Every time I go on vacation I feel the same way. I call who ever is keeping her every day or every other day just to find out how she is doing. Sometimes I have them put me on speaker phone so I can say hello to her. Don't forget to bring her something back from your trip.As long as you trust the people that are keeping her then try to not worry to much...Have fun!!!

OMG. Go on vacation, enjoy your self, have fun. The dog will be fine when you get back. YOU will miss her, she is a dog, she does not have the same feelings as you. Dogs live in the present, not the future or the past. Have fun.

we just got back from vacation and we were really worried about our puppies, but the best plan we had was to get someone to stay in our home so that our dogs at least had one constant thing. They were in their environment so I am sure they knew we were coming back and when we got back we brought them treats! ps do not let it ruin your trip!

Ummmm... get a picture of you... go to your local photo shop- and make 10 8x10's of it -- and hang them around your house at eye level of the dog-- she'll love it!!!!
and, as for you-- you can call her every day and leave messages on your answering machine--
