My desktop is a 2003 Hewlett with Windows XP and WordPerfect. My new notebook will be a Dell with Windows Vista and MS Word. Will I be able to transfer written documents from one to the other? If I save a Word doc to a 3.5-inch floppy, will the WordPerfect read and display it correctly? If not, what do I have to do to make the two PC's able to exchange docs?

You might loose a bit of the clever formatting information between wordperfect, and word, but from my experience the documents should be recognizable between the two programs. Just give it a try.

Yes you can open MS Word documents in WordPerfect. Just go to File->Open and select the MSWord file as if it were a WordPerfect file. It will automatically convert for you.

You can move files using a USB key, as it probably has more space than a 3.5-inch floppy.

Sounds like your computers should support USB.

To find out if they are compatible when you type a document on word, click on 'save as' and in the bottom of the box where you give it a file name there will be a box for 'file type', if this drop down menu has word perfect as a file type you should be fine. Then do the same in word perfect and save as a word document.

EchoBase is correct but I would add the following.

Don't just "save" the document when you are ready to close it.

If you want it to be saved as a Word Perfect file then click on File and then Save As and rename the file.
