have been on phone all day and there are no dogs available for adoption in my area

Here, you can check on http://petfinder.com once you're on the site click on dog, put in the breed & your zip code then hit the go button. It will give you a list of ones closest to your area. The more you search the further it will take you from your area. It is very unlikely you will find any for free. Good luck on your search!!!!

That makes 3 of us - Obtaining the dog is the inexpensive part. It's the cost of keeping the dog that adds up!

If you can't afford adoption fee - then you can't afford the cost of keeping him.

If you can't afford an adoption fee for a dog, how are you going to afford to care for it when it becomes sick or provide it with good quality food and care?

Try the RSPCA, but I agree with the other posters - if you can't afford the adoption fee, you can't afford the dog. period.
