From what I've read Genghis Khan was a Deist Shaman that was courted by both Nestorian Christians and Muslems.

Some are starting to drift away from the basic facts of the question. "Religious War" is a specific. Wars over territories or ideologies may have religions involved, but not be over religion.

there are wars in which religious divisions can be described, but are usually for other reasons (ethnic or economic, for instance). One could add Hindus to the list, I suppose, but certainly Christianity hold's the lion's share of initiating wars based upon religion, with Islam in second place.

Yes, in fact, one of the most famous butchers in history, Gengis Khan, was a Buddhist! And in the 13th century, the Tibetans, also Buddhists, invaded China, raping, pillaging and razing whole cities.

Then there are the Japanese Samurai, also Zen Buddhists, and their many wars. Yes, the religion of the Dali Lama is also responsible for atrocities. Strange world!

I can't think of a religion, monotheistic or otherwise, that hasn't caused a war sooner or later. On the other hand, I can't think of a political system that hasn't done the same. People will always find a way to justify hatred, oppression and conquest.
