I have worked in the education field for several years, and have noticed (even since I graduated from H.S. 10 yrs ago) that there is a huge increase in cheating amongst students.
I also have noticed that Yahoo Answers "Homework Help" is flooded with students wanting answers to their homework assignments, rather than researching and learning on their own.

Is this generation just lazy?!?!..or is it due to the technology that they have available (i.e. yahoo answers, internet access, more creative ways to cheat & not get caught)

Do you think it is due to the fact that our states and country are putting less of an emphasis on ethics, morals, beliefs?

Or do you think it is the parent's faults?

Or perhaps, the blame lays in the school systems...teachers and administrators not doing enough to crack down on cheating?

Where has the drive to accomplish on your own gone to???

Maybe you have a better idea as to why!

Would love to hear your thoughts and comments!!

What can we, as a society, do to correct this increasing occurrence? Or is it only down hill from here? How are these young individuals supposed to succeed in life when their start is nothing but a fabrication? What does this say for our COUNTRY when we neglect the importance of a fundamental and true EDUCATION?

I think that there is so much crap going on outside of school these days that kids don't have time to worry about the smaller things (to them) like homework. Kids these days have steady b/f g/f when they are 14. The world is making kids grow up way to fast. Also there is too much emphasis on after school activities. When I was 16, I was in High School, had a job, babysat, and did after school sports or whatever was going on at the time. If I got my homework done it was during homeroom or study hall. There was no other time. I was raised very well and none of this has to do with my parents it has to do with kids being too busy and frankly I felt like High School was wasting my time. After all many of my classes were the same things I had already learned over and over in the past. BTW-I graduated with a B average, I never studied, and B.S.ed my was through my homework...it wasn't hard enough. My Freshman english teacher taught 7th grade reading all year because so many students were so bad at it.

Some children just want an easy way out of studying and doing their own research. The Internet is good for studies in school but to ask someone from yahoo unless it is for a poll than it's okay. It's not always the parents fault with nowadays both parents working. On the other hand no parent should be too busy to not know what is going on in their children's schoolwork or life. When I was in school the library was the place for the answers. And still should be for most research. And I personally don't see any harm in using the Internet for information.Blaming others such as parents or even the school system is never the answer. And I do agree with you about how our country has dropped their morals, ethics and even beliefs.I don't have any answers that will help but can understand your concern.Children can't even spell simple words nowadays.

As a student its part of a lot of things
1. we are a lot more lazy ( and the more lazy we get the lower they make the standers)
2. Because parents dont seem to care as much to make kids really study, and they are alot more easy going so they let us out without having to do homework and such. So then we dont know the answer, so we ues our friends..
3. When we do cheat it doesnt matter how strict the teacher is, we will try no matter what the teacher is like.
4. We really dont care much about school anymore. It is part that we have more technology now and so we have better things to do then homework and to study.

I think people cheat because they are ignorant, lazy, have no self respect, and are looking for the easy way out. If you cheat, you should automatically fail and not be given a second chance. I don't like cheaters. I am in college and I see it every day. I have to study but classmates just have to look at someone else's paper. There are no consequences anymore for people to face when they make the wrong choices.

I believe that cheating is not inherent in our students. They
cheat because of the laxity of teacherswhen conducting an
examination. Try some innovative schemes that will deter
students from cheating. For example. when giving tests,
give two sets of exams and don't let students have their
things near them. See to it that only the test papers and
pencil or ballpen are on the desk of students. And teachers
must be always in the classroom moving around to
discourage students asking other students. And please do
not blame the internet, because it is a great source of
information. I know, because i am presently enrolled in
a masteral course and one source of valuable data
is the internet.

i dont think it has anything to do with morals being lower or kids being lazier. morals have always been low and kids have ALWAYS been lazy.
But you hit it on the nose when you said it is due to the technology they have available.
I didn't have yahoo answers when I was a kid. If I did, I probably would have used it.
But since cheating wasn't as easy as it is today... the only cheating i did was glancing at a neighbors test paper.

Not much we can do. We keep dropping our stanards to allow the lazy people to make it though. We should allow for people that have real learning problems but make the others step up and do it correct. Parents put to much on the schools and dont take charge of there kids learning. It should be schiool and parents together. The kids dont respect the education. they dont have to. they dont see were the educatuion will help them in life. So They say I will do only what I have to to get though. So they loss and america losses to

I believe that children cheat because it is so easy to cheat if you don't have the type of teacher who cares..

Children know that if they have a strict teacher than they can't get away with the cheating in that class then they won't cheat.....

I think that if teachers showed that they actually do care about the kids and that they want them to succeed in life then kids would have that belief in themselves......

Not only the teachers belief but their parents belief too... :-)

i think that kids have it so easy now a days. i am 37 and i do not remember getting to do the things that kids do know. there would of been no way i would of had a computer or a cell phone. i feel the kids expect things to be easy so they cheat so they do not need to study so they can do whatever they feel like doing.

to make a big change, everyone of us must work for it.
parents- must taught their childs not to cheat, not even in a small matter.
teachers- must quote some lines at de end of their class, which could b a moral for all studnets.
Yahoo's homework helper- they must knw dat they r killing de learning habbits of thousands of ppl just bcoz of their web's popularity.
