Is athiest just a fancy name for Godless or is there a difference?

Godless will work for me if that is the name you prefer. Pretty much sums it up.

There are different degrees of atheism.

I am a strong atheist, meaning I firmly believe there is no god.

However, one can still be an atheist (called a 'weak atheist') by simply not believing in a god or gods, without taking the firm stance that they absolutely don't exist.

Both words you mention, "atheist" and "godless," carry cultural baggage with them. While "atheist" has been somewhat reclaimed, it is still interesting to think of what a more commonly acceptable word there might be. This is why you hear about so many "secular humanists," though secular humanism is a somewhat stronger claim than atheism in that it entails slightly more and thus applies to fewer people.

"godless" carries a negative connotation, and is generally used as an insult by smug monotheists (especially Christians). Ironically, it is used by people who presume their god is omnipotent and everywhere; thus by their own path's definition, the description is impossible.

"atheist," in comparison, implies the use of intelligence and reason to inform one's worldview.

that's the main difference.

No athiest is a horrible misspelling of atheist.

Atheist = Does Not Believe In God.

You'd find the definition easier if you spelled it correctly. An atheist doesn't believe in god(s).

It's spelled 'atheist'. And yes, it means someone who doesn't believe in god. You say that like it's a bad thing.
