While I can't point you at a specific book, you might consider the books that were left out of most 'current' versions of the Bible. There are a -large- number of these, and it's likely that parts of Jesus' childhood would be discussed in one or the other of them.
Here's a place to start - see the sources.

The Bible texts written about Jesus (Gospels) were written for the most part as first person accounts from those who were his followers during his time of preaching which did not occur until He was approximately 30 years old.

The names escape me....but there were several writings about those years, unfortunately when the bible was put together, a group of mortal men decided what should be put in it, and what should be left out. Do a search for lost books of the bible.

There are references to Jesus' apprehensiveness about the path He was destined for. I am quite sure it would have taken twenty years to commune with His Father, come to terms with His destiny, and develop a game plan for what He intended to do.
It wouldn't be very interesting or particularly useful to read twenty chapters saying, "Jesus was scared. Jesus prayed. God showed Him what He would achieve by sacrificing Himself. Jesus was still scared. Jesus prayed some more. Jesus wept. Jesus thought about his options. Jesus prayed again." Ad nauseam. So they skipped the redundant parts.

There are some books on what they believed happened, but they are more in the metaphysical/new age section of the bookstore, rather than in the bible.

He was in India learning about spirituality. JK. I really don't know but I have heard that there are accounts of a man such as him in India during that time. Where ever he was it must have worked for him.

Because his active ministry didn't begin until his baptism by John. It only lasted about 3 years, but what a 3 years it was.

There is no need for any history at that point. The Bible says he grew in wisdom and stature.....................and we meet up with Him again when His ministry begins at 30. He was not doing miracles, etc. during that time. When the time was right, he began his ministry.
