I just bought a car that was sold to me as 2002/02 registered but when i insured it today and put the number plate in, the vehicle description was automatically filled with : MINI COOPER 1.6I (01 ON) AUTO. What does the "(01 ON)" means? Is it because it's actually a 2001 car?

It means your car is of the model produced from 2001 to the present (at the time the system was set up). This allows insurance companies (and others) to distinguish between different generations of the same model, without having to refer to the exact year of any particular car.

01 means 2001, registered sep 2001..and so on..
a 52 would be 6months on the 02 6 months after that.

Any cars past 2001. Duh. The reason for this is because the previous smaaler car built a long time ago. It distinguishes between the two. Because although yours is a 2002 they were made in Europe in 2001.
