what do you think you could learn from the books not in the canon?

In my own opinion, I doubt if I would learn anything from the books not included in the canon version of the Bible. Although I do believe that the concepts put forth in the Bible are from God, I do not necessarily believe that each and every word are His, but rather man's viewpoint on what God wants us to do and be etc.
I have a very personal relationship with my creator/God and feel that I have as much input from Him as would have anyone else. He guides me on a daily basis in my life and has never failed to answer a prayer...even though sometimes I don't always understand his initial response. However, over time, I have come to see that everything always turns out for my betterment. I trust Him totally and wish that I could somehow show others what it is like to truly be in His presence.

How sh itty literature can be.
There is no definitive "canon" or even prerequisites that classify something canonical so each person's canon differs. I guess it's generally accepted that things like Hemingway and Shakespeare are in there, and that most well-written or groundbreaking literature is in there.
I think the canon has ignored the contributions by minorities.

How apocrypha reads.
It doesn't read well. Usually it does not speak of the Lord or reveal anything about the Lord. Take Chronicles and Job!

A GREAT deal is to be learned from the Gnostic Gospels. Most specifically is that Jesus spoke of enlightenment. Salvation comes from enlightenment.
The early church feared enlightenment because that philosophy is not about control.
