"blasphemy against the Holy Ghost" can be understood as a rejection of the gospel of salvation. This would be an "unpardonable sin" because as long as a person remains in unbelief, he/she voluntarily excludes himself from forgiveness of sin.

Some people think it's "sin" against the Holy Spirit, well I'll tell you what I know so far. I was wondering for the longest time that same thing and prayed about it and then decided to check the original texts (greek) and it is realy to BLASPHEME against the Holy Spirit, nothing else, and to blaspheme means to speak unholy, badly against him.

You can blaspheme agains Jesus or God and you can be forgiven but we don't "deal" with the Holy Spirit and He can not forgive us.

Now why is it that and only that, not sin or what ever? still is a good question but I have come to believe (and don't take my word 100% for it, it is still in waiting of God's answer) that God spoke to men and Jesus did also they even argued and spoke of truth. On the other hand the Holy Spirit did nothing of the sort, He is doing God's bid and is perhaps defendless and we are not to put him down for he has nothing to do with what we do other than live in us and help us see the truth.
Where God and Jesus did talk, show and manifest themselves to men... I don't know if I'm clear but I am a dyslexic french canadian and it is hard for me to express what my heart feels in that manners.

Look at it this way, the Holy Spirit is an inocent by stardard, who will never argue with us as Jesus and God did, so why would we blaspheme agains Him since he did nothing to us.
And the fact that the Holy Spirit is not the one to forgive but God is.
Something like that!

This is a very good question, and I've discussed this passages with friends before. Personally, I've understood this passage to basically be saying that if you commit an act of blasphemy against God's Holy Spirit and remain in an unrepentant state, therein lies the "unforgivableness" of the offense.

Matthew 12: 31

31 “On this account I say to YOU, Every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come.

Do not mock or use blasphemy against our Creator, and his Holy Spirit that comes from Him.

Once a person has come to the full knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and then denies every wit, falling away from and becoming an enemy to Christ, becomes guilty of blaspheming against the Holy Ghost.

We are imperfect, so we sin every day. We are encouraged to work on our weaknesses so as not to repeat them.

However, in this particular scripture Jesus spoke of the seriousness of sinning against holy spirit. That is speaking or acting against Gods active force or power.

The religious leaders of Jesus' day did this by not accepting Jesus as God's Messiah and by claiming that Jesus performed miracles with the aid of Satan, not God.
