a few months ago, I was visiting my aunt when I took a picture of my son and cousin's daugter. I just got it developed and in the background there is a silhouette of a man. the only people in the house at the time was my aunt, my cousin (who was both in bed because of the flu), my little cousin,my son and an infant.

other then a spirit, what could of caused this to happen?

I do photography (black and white) that I develop myself, this is often seen and can take all shape. You see the camera lens doesn't see as we do, si if there was a little flash of light or a dark spot it can amplify it and show a silhouette of what ever shape.
It can even be a smudge on the film!

I'd have to see to tell you,

It is not very likely.

Is it on the negative, or just on the print?

How clear a silhouette is it? Could it just be a combination of shadows that just has the vague proportions of a silhouette?

There are a lot of steps in developing a negative and printing an image. Water drops and chemicals not properly washed away can produce all sorts of odd effects.

Then there is the possibility that it was a local effect. Shadows line up in just the right way. You probably would not notice while taking the picture as you are concentrating on the subjects rather than the background. (You will take better pictures when you do consider the background an it's relationship to the subject(s).)

Without seeing the photo and the negative it is hard to say.

A silhouette? You mean a dark area shaped more or less like a man??? A shadow? Spirits cannot be photographed since they have no substance.

It depends on what kind of camera you have as to what it could be. Digital is harder to explain. I do believe people have captured such things. I choose to remain skeptical on a case by case basis however. You know in your heart what it is, so don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Send it to Coast to Coast Am with George Noory. It's a radio program that deals with the paranormal.

So it wasn't digital, I take it.

The film could have gotten messed up during exposure.

Picture ninjas.

They slip in when you least expect it, muck up your family photo, and then they're gone before you can lower the camera.
