I just started a new exercise rutine that takes 45 minutes to complete. But I'm stiff and sore when I wake up in the mornings now.

Should I keep exercising everyday the same way and hope it goes away?

Or should I take a day off and give my muscles time to rest?

Thank you to those who have answered already.

To those of you who asked what kind of exercises - here you go.
15 min - jogging on the spot (inside)
15 min - walking dog quikly (outside
15 min - back exercises (inside) - I have a bad back since childhood, and these are the exercises my orthopedic surgeon told me to do.

This is why I haven't exercised much until now, becaue my orthopedic surgeon doesn't even want me to carry a book back, or do any exercises that will make my back worse.

But I think jogging and walking shouldn't be that bad.

i had the same problem when i first started exercising..soreness happens to everyone on a new routine..my suggestion is to take 1-2 days off, and then continue with your workouts (and drink lots of water a day)

...in a week or so after continious workouts, your body should adjust to the routine, and the soreness will be very minor if not gone completely

The soreness is a good thing. It means your body is benefiting from the exercise. Your muscles will take some time to adjust to this new level of activity. However, you must listen to your body, if you feel like you've injured yourself, you should take care of it. Muscle aches are normal, so keep working out if this is all it is.

Second, be sure to stretch before and after EVERY workout. Stretching is sooo important to prevent injury and muscle tears. Take about 5-10 minutes to warm up and cool down from each workout. It will help you in the end. You may still be sore, but like I said, you will adjust to that. Over time, you won't be so sore.

Are you doing Aerobics or Weight lifting?

While doing any type of exercises, try taking deep breath so more oxygen goes to your system, this will diminish the amount of lactic acid that builds up in your body while you exercise. Drink enough water which also helps to get higher level of oxygen in the blood and hydrates the cells.

Lactic acid gets trap in the muscles causing pain.
Also try to do exercise, one day yes, one day no. To give time for your muscles to recover (this is good if you are lifting weight). When we lift weight it causes little "scratches" in the muscles so to speak and this causes pain also. So that's why it is advisable to do weight lifting 3 times a week with a day off in between.
Anyway, after a while your body will get more fit and will be able to manage oxygen in a better way, helping with the pain! Hope this helps!

Good luck! :)

Be sure to warm up properly and cool down/stretch afterward. That'll help with the next-day soreness somewhat.

If you are doing cardio you can do that daily. If you are doing strength training then it's advised not to work the same muscle group 2 days in a row, to allow the muscle(s) time to rest/heal.

you should take a day off and give your muscles time to heal. if you really want to do something everyday, maybe go for a brisk walk or do something that isn't as strenuous, and alternate between your exercises. it isn't healthy to do a hardcore exercise everyday and ignore muscle pain.

Exercise every other day.

Take 2 ibuprophen BEFORE you exercise each time, and also every morning immediately (after breakfast, or with milk).

You won't feel a thing.

your body just needs to get used to it. that is how i feel when i skip a lot of time exercising. just give your body like one or two days out of the week to rest. don't forget to stretch.
