There are no 22 caliber automatics available, however there are 22 caliber semi- automatics available, and I would go with Ruger..........

Probably the best is the Winchester model 63. They've been out of production for about a half century, though, and the collector's value has the price a bit high. There's a Brazilian copy that's tempting. Originally made by Rossi, it's now marketed by Taurus.
The Ruger 10/22 is very popular, and there's a pretty good cottage industry that's sprung up for upgrades and accurizing to suit just about anybody's tastes.
Neither the Remington nor the Marlin has really impressed me, but I have my old Winchester, so I haven't really looked closely at them.

I have an original issue Ruger 10/22 that is still shooting strong. Very accurate when I bought it in the mid 60's and still is. Every 3 or 4 years I take it apart and clean it; no noticable weat at over one hundred thousand rounds.

Well, the Ruger 10/22 is a good gun, but i dont like them. I like my remington 597 .22. IT is cheaper, accurate, and very reliable. Marlins are also great guns, but can be cashy. I have a Marlin model 60 and its is great. Very accurate, and is alot of fun to shoot. It also holds more shells than most .22s.

the 1 in the hands of the better shooter ive owned a few in my day and they all shot well. but if you want a more inciteful answer i say it depend on the amunition you use. i myself like the marlin model 60 or the ruger 10-22 they are both inexpensive and accurate. ive hit soda cans at 300 + meters with both.

You cant go wrong with a Ruger 10/22.

They shoot decent enough out of the box and have so many aftermarket parts and upgrades, you can make it as accurate as you want, or can shoot it. Check out rimfirecentral.com for more info.
