Im thinking about buying a radar detector and i dont have enough for a laser detection setting (not like they do much anyway considering lasers detect in like 2 seconds), but i was wondering how often police use laser vs radar? Is it even worth it to consider buying a radar detector? I have 5 points (1 ticket) and i cant afford another ticket.

The best idea is - for you to SLOW DOWN.

Laser/lidar is still not very common; most departments still use radar.

That being said, I can lock on a vehicle's speed within 2 seconds - much quicker than you can respond to your detector's warning..... and that's 5-year-old radar technology.

laser is almost never used. Radar is cheaper and more reliable. laser requires clear conditions with no obstructions, no rain or fog or dust. Radar works no matter what. I have a detector that picks up everything and I have had it for 7 years. I have been clocked by laser so few times that I don't even remember the last time I was hit with laser. One time I got hit with it and I didn't even have time to slow down so I got a ticket anyway.

A, drive the speed limit.
B, the EXACT SAME companies make the detector that YOU buy and the detector that the COPS use. So you are ALWAYS buying "trailing edge" technology.
