A couple weeks ago i had some fillings put in and they put me on nitrous oxide for the first time. After about 30 seconds of breathing it in i felt very lighheaded, enought to feel like i was going to faint. Is that normal? What are the normal feelings you get while using nitrous oxide?

Yes that is normal. The machines do not allow any less than 30% oxygen which is higher than the 21% in the air we breathe. The nitrous relaxes you and has a euphoric effect. Some people don't like the feeling or it scares them and it won't have the relaxing effect. At the end however, you need to breathe 100% oxygen for a minute or so or you could pass out when you get up.

It is suppose to make you feel in a sadated state to calm your nerves, so you're not going crazy in the chair and just terrified or whatever the case may be. Just go home and take a nap next time you have to go under that type of sedation and I'm sure you will feel fine after waking up.

Yeah you are supposed to feel "loopy". I was on it once and started laughing uncontrollably. I was so anxious before and that made me relax. My greatest fear is the dentist, so no matter what I'm having done I have to have the gas or I don't make it.

Yes, that's the point and it's normal. You know you have too much if you begin to feel paralyzed and have difficulty breathing and cannot speak. If you start to 'black out', they have it turned up too high. That happened to me once.

Yes, that was normal. It is supposed to make you feel loopy and sleepy. What year is it though? I thought they stopped using that stuff decades ago.
