I am getting married in a few weeks and expecting 200 guests. I did not specifically ask for money as wedding gifts, but does anyone have an idea for how much money I can expect to get?? Based on previous experiences.

How tacky and greedy are you? If you didn't have the wedding and reception, you could have saved a lot of money, probably more than you'll make.

The majority of guests give money. I was just @ a Wedding over the weekend and there were maybe 4 wrapped gifts. I would assume that a couple would give approximately $100 - $150. It also depends on where your Wedding will be. If you have rented a banquet hall guests should at the very least cover the cost of their plate if they are attending which could easily cost $50 per/person. Immediate family members will always give much more. Congratulations and Best Wishes!

It really does depend upon a lot of things. Did you register at a store (or several?) and did you get everything from those registries? If not, expect people to give you gifts too, not everyone will give money. Are you young and most of your friends young as well? Many of them may not have enough to give you what some might think is a proper amount of money, so they'll opt for a cheaper gift as well. Did most of your guests go to your shower? Many people feel that giving one gift throughout the process of engagment/marriage is enough, so you may not recieve anything but well wishes from some people. Are you super close with every guest or are some distant relatives and friends of friends who random relatives insisted be invited? The closer they are, the more they'll tend to spend, so your great great uncle twice removed will probably not give you the same as your 1st cousin who you had countless sleepovers with as a child. Sorry that isn't more help, but it really does depend on so many things that I don't want to venture a guess.

Depends, most of my gifts were money. Many people try to cover the cost of there plates, many do not. The average gift was less than the cost of the dinner. I had a smaller wedding, the close the relationship the larger the gift in general.

I didn't actually count how much money I got. So this is just a guestimate. Only got one or 2 gift from people who attended, I purposely didn't register.

Did you sign up for a registry anywhere? Out of 100 guests, on'y 4 gave us money. Everyone else bought presents. You can always take the presents back tho if you prefer the cash. Our total from the 4 guests was $420. Good luck and congrats!

all the answers are wrong except Michelle. Gifts are never subject to income tax (or gift tax) to the recipient. Only if you invest the gift and earn money on the investment will you pay income tax. There is no limit, people get confused with the annual gift tax exemption of (currently) $12,000, but that's a whole new subject. Congratulations, you received tax-free gifts.

Well that all depends on what sort of people you & your beau usually hang around........Like my daughter had a 4 hour cruise wedding, with just them and all of her guests on this cruise around the Laguna beach-to the ocean and back area! Most of her guests were from Laguna Anaheim Hills, and those types of area's.....And they walked away with $4,000.....somethin' I do remember her saying....And they only had around 60-75 guests, on the cruise......because I ventured on all three decks and most of the guests were on the floor where the partying, dancing & drinking were! And it only looked like 50 or so people there! So, i would say for your party should you guys be hanging out with lots of working people who make good money, you should walk away with around $2500.....see because if you figure the cash gifts are mostly going to be from those who know you the best, right.....The rest will most likely be actual gifts, from those who dont know you. Things like stuff for your house, together...... So, I would multiply $50.00 times however many people really know you two, and consider the rest as real gifts, that way your not too disappointed when you only walk away with a couple, three thousand........ Congratulations!!! Hope you will get lots of moola!! Also, you should do the dollar dance, that always gets you lots of moola, too!! The bride gets paid $1.00 for everyone who dances with her, at the reception! You know that one!! Some people put more than a dollar pinned to your dress!! They safety pin the money to your dress! My best friend's sister did this at her wedding, and made all kinds of money from the "Dollar Dance!!!" Good Luck to you & yours!! Smile!!!

I had about 60 guests and got almost $2000 in money and then gifts as well. It depends on how close you are to your guests, if they prefer to give money or gifts, and what type of incomes your guests have.

We questioned this too... if you get $50 from at least half of your guests ... you'd get $5000 - We based our numbers off the same thing and we got just around that. We had 260 people so 130 cards x $50 = $6500.00

I would not suggest asking Monetary gifts only and allow all guest to bring what they can.
It depends on the proffession of the guest you invite Also older family members who you have contact with often tend to give Great gifts and Monetary gifts.
I would not suggest expecting a certain amount. The economy is bad and gifts usually are given most the time instead of cash.

well at my mom wedding anniversary she got an average of 50-75 from each guest. And thats including the people who sponsored. In our heritage people sponser something of the wedding. Example: the hall, food, drinks, flowers, the rosary or whatever idk. all that good stuff. So yeah the people who did that all gave at least 50.00. To get more money tell a really close relative or friend to start pinning money to your dress! my greek cousin did this at her wedding and she got 600.00!!!!!! oh yeah! lol
