i'm going on a cruise at the end of the month and i'm wondering if this dress is TOO formal for the formal supper?

I think that dress is amazing! I would definantly wear that for the formal supper! And, in my opinion, that is a really good price for such a dress. I'd jump all over that deal! Have fun on your cruise.

I really like the second dress too. I would be afraid that the train would get in the way or that someone might step on it. If you aren't afraid of that then I would go with the second dress.

Both are beautiful!

yep. It's a beautiful dress but based on what i've seen in prior cruises, it's over the top of what everybody else will be wearing.

Remember that most people barely get 'formal' for the formal supper (there are always a few guys who get turned away from the front desk because they didn't bring a tie!) . I believe this is either because they don't want to buy clothes they won't wear again or because formal dress takes too much room in a suitcase!

What I've found to work best is to either get a really simple dress (e.g. a LBD) and then fashion it up with costume jewelry OR get a pair of very nice, fancy black slacks and then treat yourself to a couple of fancy tops - you could get a black beaded top (similar to the dress you chose) or a colorful silk jacket.

I absolutely love the 2nd one. Not so into the first one. Also pick one you'd be interested in wearing again.

It depends on the cruise you are going on. Carnival is more casual on formal night than Celebrity and Princess. The more expensive a cruise is the more formal the formal night. However I've worn my prom dresses on my cruise and I completely fit in on NCL and was only slightly overdressed on Carnival. Other people will be formal as well, though it is also perfectly acceptable to be less dressy.

For me, I always prefer to be a tad bit overdressed than a tad bit under-dressed. My husband and I love to dress up so we use the opportunity to go really formal on the formal nights. The people who are borderline overdressed are the ones who go to the captains reception (free champagne) so if you go to it, you'd fit in perfectly. The ones who just do the minimim don't go to the Captains event.

But yes either of those dresses would be lovely--and while yes it isn't a requirement to be that lovely--sometimes its just nice to get all formal.

Wow, it's gorgeous. What cruise line are you travelling on? I would say for an american cruise line it is to formal. I was on an Italian cruise line a couple of years ago, and that dress would have been fine. I felt underdressed! You should have seen the jewellry the ladies were wearing. Keep searching!

Buy this dress!!!!!!!!!!! It will be great. People dress all kinds of ways for the formal dinner. Every thing form semifinal to your kind of dress and tuxedos. This is a beautiful dress. Take a light wrap or scarf in case the dining room is cool.

NOTHING is too formal on a cruise!! Literally anything goes...from sundresses to beaded gowns...and I like the 2nd dress option better. Have fun!!

You will see everything on the dress night from this dress to others wearing sundresses. What ever you are comfortable in will work. You will have an opportunity to get photos taken prior to dinner. Have Fun...
