Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about the kids. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

Well, you know his likes and dislikes better than anyone - so really, it's up to you.

Concentrate on what HE would very much like - but one that he would probably feel guilty about if he splurged on the purchse - OK within reason. He may want an expensive motorcycle - That's something to budget monthly savings for - but say he wants a new golf club or some other widget - that's just out of reach within the budget...

Hope this helps.

Camping stuff? Cool little gadgets are always fun to get. Tech, or whatever. You're better off actually going into a store so you can get a feel for what you are actually going to buy. Go into a couple of stores and ask some guys in the store what they would want. You'll have some good results using this method for any occasion.

If he likes tech stuff, get him a DVR (like TiVO) or a digital camera/camcorder, or a DVD recorder.

I know my husband wants a grill, so if you don't have one, there is an option, too.

If he doesn't want or need that stuff, get him some DVDs of movies that he likes, or tickets to a local sports game.

If he is a sports freak then I would do tickets to his favorite team/event. If he enjoys playing sports such as baseball I would do the batting cages, golf-get him lessons or his own sessions on the golf course etc...race cars=go carts or race track driving. If he is a wine-o then I would do a wine tasting event etc..Good Luck.

What he loves? Example: A ferrari.

Instead of buying a ferrari :), give him a painting of the car - done by pro artists.

You send a photo/picture by mail or upload from computer to http://www.paintyourlife.com/ and they make the painting.

Mine always says that he needs nothing so I get him something that he can do with our little boy. Usually a cool remote control accompanied with a letter from me thanking him for what he means to me and reminding him how much I love him.

How about some new car mats? www.ggbailey.com
You are able to design your own, and include his name on them. If you would rather give a gift certificate, they have those too.
