Should I still be putting Frontline on my puppy in the winter when it is cold and snowy, or are fleas not a threat during the cold winter months? I live in New Jersey if that helps.

Also I have a cat that only stays indoors and is flea free. I put Frontline on my puppy monthly so he also has no fleas. Should I be putting Frontline on my kitty too, just in case, or is that really not necessary if he never goes outside. I brush him and check for fleas regularly.

There are no carpets in the house, only hardwood floors. We have a few rugs, but those get washed in the washing machine regularly.

My vet said the fleas die, when the first frost comes! So I'm sure the snow would kill them! So I wouldn't put it on in the winter! And I would probably treat the cat too!

I have had more luck with K9 Advantix than the Frontline! With frontline my dog still had a flea bite once in awhile, which she is allergic too! Once I changed her to Advatix, no more problem!

Frontline should be applied year-round, because fleas and flea eggs will live dormant in your carpet and upholstery. If your dog is the only animal exposed to the fleas, it is probably safe not to treat the cat, but make sure to keep a close eye out for fleas on the cat, just in case you or your dog track some in from the outdoors.

The vets will tell you to use flea medication year round but I really don't since fleas are dormant during the winter. I also don't use it on my indoor cat, however, if your puppy is to bring one flea into the house your cat will get fleas. I have had pets my whole life and it has happened only once but boy was that a mess.

It is advisable to treat year round. In the cold months, fleas simply live in your house - they are attracted to the warmth. Also, indoor cats still get fleas even if they are only pets, but since the cat lives with a dog it is even more likely he will get them.

It's good that you know to check your pets for fleas - do you know to look for the flea dirts rather than the actual fleas themselves? They look like black flakes, and turn red when wet.

It is better to treat year round for fleas rather than start and stop. You never know when another dog who has fleas in the home may come into contact with your pooch. Always better safe than sorry!

Treat your cat as well, b/c if your puppy does get fleas then can be transmitted to your cat.

I would use frontline on your cat also, because fleas could be livin in your home even though they may not be on your dog. if they are in your home then they wont live on your cat because it has frontline on it. never use any other flea medication on your pet unless you ask a vet because it can cause sezures.. im speaking from experience and that is what our vet said.

It is a year round process, keep applying during winter months, apply to you cat also, if a fleajumps on to your dog and is carried inside, before it dies on your dog, it could jump on to your cat, so id do both.
