I don't think a lot of you quite understood me. Allen B....yeah thanks genius, but it's an exam. They give me a title to work with, and I have to think of the plot and write it all in 40 minutes.

At the beggining there is a detailed description of the small abandoned cottage on the hill. For miles around there is only arable land.

One woman lives there alone, and hasnt spoken to anyone for 17 years. Everybody has forgotten she exists.

Throughout the story there are flashback of what happened to make her such a hermit.

These are intersected with the details of her current life and her lonelyness. It gradually turns out that she suffered a terrible trauma many years ago and cant go near other people because of the horrible flashbacks.

The first flashback occurs when she sees a scarecrow far in the distance and remembers the trousers of the man who (lets say) came into her house and murdered her parents as she hid under a tableclothed table and could only see his trousers.

etc etc, various things trigger her to remember parts of her life that she had previously blocked out.

Well the ending --- either she gets better or she kills herself. :) up to you

I love to write and those assignments always block any idea that I might of had until I started this.

Pick an ending. They get married, the dog finds his bone, the plane crashes whatever. That will give who, then it may inspire a conversation and then try to see how to introduce the main character. A woman walks into the store, a child turns on Dad's computer.

This is an opportunity to explore some things that you may want to do in your life such as sky diving or being trapped on an island.

Just try, hopefully your professor will critique your first draft and you can take it from there. This should be enjoyable and a time to escape just like reading a good book or watching a great movie allows you to escape.

Turn your computer on if that is your preferred method and just type. Don't even look at it until that writing session is over then go back and fix your spelling and grammar. The story if far more important than a missing comma.

Good luck and have a blast..........

Think about what you dream about when your asleep
then think of a way to write your dream in a story
or just write something like a future story.
and have the plot be the fact that you can't know the future.
good luck hope you get a good grade.

Snap out of it and stop trying to find a crutch (I'm one of those people) Write a short story about the wind. Give it character, let it fight with the rain, love the sun, relax over the cool mountains, move swiftly over hot deserts, find the loney ship in the deep south Atlantic and the penguins in the north, etc etc. get into it and go. Then edit - re-write, edit, re-write until you have said it all in the least amount of words possible.

One of what people - you are your own person, unique.

Just go for it.

You could write a story based on your life, just embelish it a bit, exagerate a bit in places, change tiny bits to make it more exciting, or keep some bits the same.
Thats always a good idea cos you already have all the details in your mind, complete with names, emotions and everything!

Why not write about your life growing up, or even speak to realtives and ask them how it was for them and write about it.

You could even write about how it will be for a child who will be born in the year 3000, that would be really creative and you cant get it wrong because no one will no what is wrong!!!

Look out of the window and imagine the life's of the people/animals you see.
Where are they going, where have they been, you can make them anything you want.
Look for an idea, it could be something as simple as the colour of the car, she loved it, he hated it, she has left, He's unhappy, spin it out from there. OK, I know it's not Shakespeare but it is only an idea.

Sit there for an hour thinking about what to write, then write it down!
