I have had this battery acid feeling in my throat now off and on for a month. I started taking Prilosec OTC almost two weeks ago and last night I had the worst spell of acid in my throat. I tried taking Maalox and drinking some milk and nothing helped. This is the first time that I have had all day acid and not been able to get rid of it. Does anyone know of an Over the counter medicine that is especially good for acid reflux/acid in throat? I have already tried taking typical antacids like rolaids and Gas-X and of course the prilosec OTC. Or am I describing acid reflux disease and thus should go to the doctor? help!

Since your problem is so constant and lengthy, I recommend you see a doctor. However, for acid indigestion and stomach distress I take a teaspoon of baking soda (like Arm & Hammer) and a half glass of water. It's an old remedy and it works.

Slippery Elm Bark. To help 'reline; a sore stomach. Extra pillow at night or prop bed head up a few inches. But you are describing a mechanical problem that requires a sensible endoscopic examination to be orderd by your doctor. It is extremely important not to have that acid burning and changing the cells lining your oesophagus. You may indeed have hiatus hernia, you could also have a duodenal ulcer because the stomach will then 'bloat' and hold its food back much longer to give the sore duodenum a chance to heal. Sometimes there can be a bacterial overgrowth that has come up from lower in the intestinal tract. Basically go back to the doctor and hassle them until it is fixed.

Prilosec can take a while to help. Try Zantac OTC (you can double up to get a prescription dose of 150mg). Milk is NOT helpful for heartburn - the protein activates acid excretion. Also avoid sugary and fried foods. See your doctor if you are not better in a couple of days and also if you get a fever

Its importnat to go to the doctor as soon as possible because any problems with your throat could close your airway up. I would advise you to see a doctor to be on the safe side and to help the condition you have.

I prefer Zantac myself. Take double the dosage for awhile to get your acid under control.

Sounds like you have tried everything so now it's time to see your doctor!! The longer you wait the worse it will get!! It won't go away by itself !!
