Some say this is the religious section. True.
But it is a section of a Question & answers site. Not a place for preaching.

Tah75, thats not quite what I meant. Just look at some of the questions and answers in this section and you'll see what I mean.

Sasi, you do have a point. But there have been times that I have read answers, both of my own questions and others questions, where they recite passages from the bible or whatever, or start to preach about their beliefs when it is unrelated to the question. Questions are also asked which could be viewed as preaching.
And serious answers are good, but this site would be boring without a little humor, just so long as it isn't intended to insult.

This question IS directed towards atheists, as well as everyone who has a relighious belief or lack thereof.
I guess I could have worded it a little differently though. Point taken.

Usually because they are asked to explain why they do (or do not) believe something.
Questions that do not ask for explanations, but are merely platforms for making a pre-judged statement of belief, are just asking for ripostes. So they get them.
Silly people will clown around with the question (but they're still worth 2 points if funny). Idiots will loose the plot halfway through the question and ramble on about totally unrelated issues. Passionate people will declare passionately why they think a belief is important / right / wrong. Democratic people will celebrate the opportunity (ever rarer these days) to freely express their views. But as for those who cannot ask valid questions, well, they receive the equivalent of bucket-loads of drivel. And so they should! Long live Yahoo!

Because this place isnt a valid place to ask religious question. It was about the first two weeks it was open. Since then...its devolved. Truth is, there is no valid response to a religious question - no matter what you ask, the response you get will be biased by the responders own religion or lack thereof.

They are sinning!!!!!
They frequently break and abuse the YA rules they agreed to abide by:
Using Yahoo! Answers as a soapbox to vent frustrations, rant, or otherwise violate the question and answer format.
Inciting and advocating violence or harm against a person, group of people, or animals. (gays, abortionists, atheists etc).
Harass, threaten, insult, or behave belligerently towards others. (gays, abortionists, atheists etc).
Many also seem to falsely claim credentials or expertise that they do not possess.
There are also those that pose as Christians to sow dissent and cause harm. These people violate by Impersonating a third party, or participate as anything or anybody other than yourself.
As these are clear breaches of the guidelines then violation is always an option. Whilst I prefer to look to free speech some of these people are actually causing a lot of harm to Christianity. Therefore it should be Christians wondering whether to violate them and not the atheist who must be sitting back laughing at them!!!
But please remember there are some good Christians out there that do ask and answer sensible questions.

Hi,Squirrel,
I find it useful to replace 'Preach' (which is defined as to urge acceptance or compliance) with 'Affirm'. That way,you can say 'OK,that's what you believe in- good for you.'
Most religions require that the devotee makes some effort at spreading the word, so on a global engine such as Y!A you will find everybody putting in a good word for God.
Don't let it put you off visiting Religion&Spirituality,however- it's never dull.
If you don't believe me,go to 'Gardening'
Or 'Bullfighting'- noboy goes there.
Regards,
Viv

When someone asks a question on this site then you must expect an answer. There I'm preaching something to you now.

I'm no different at heart. I'd ginger up all women to be feminists but I'd unsettle more women than I attracted. Nothing worse than pointing out truths they hadn't known before. Men have been known to hit women because scales fell from their eyes.

You have to understand that for some people their religious beliefs are their life.
They have absolutely no idea that they are preaching.
You get people who give long winded answers to almost any topic on here.
