The key used was found by Microsoft on pirate sites and deactivated due to over-use.

If you have a genuine CD, then you can call up Microsoft customer care center and they should be able to provide you with a new key. From what I know, they do that for customers who have lost their key and come back after a year or so because they need to format and reinstall their computer. Of course, there are alternative ways to get a key.... but if you ask me, if you are genuine, it's good to try and stay genuine.

To tell you the truth I have a genuine copy of Windows XP, and everytime I install it, I cant ever get the key right the first time. Best thing to do is to keep on trying if it is a real gen copy. Try turning capslock on or off; things of that nature.

I think you should talk to Bill Gates. He is the only person who can explain you the matter. I f he doesnt pick up the call then the best thing would be break the disk you bought into pieces and buy a pirated one which would be around Rs.100.
