I want to be carefull in my answer before God....however,one possible explanation is that God was not speaking of emotional attachment, but rather a willingness to put him first above family or friends...Another biblical text, asks the question: How can one say that he loves God whom he can not see and yet not love his brother whom he can see(paraphrased from memory)..to me this lends some validation to my view....
Disclaimer....Occasionaly, I am not sure of an answer that I have given...this response is for consideration only.

Here is the straight answer -
People can betray a person, I have been betrayed by people.
Jesus never will, He loves us so much He took our sin upon Himself and shed His blood on the cross to make a way for us to be reconciled to God. Only He could do that.
Now that doesn't mean we should not love our spouse and children who are right here. This concept may be hard for you to grasp BUT -loving Jesus more than them, makes me a much better wife and mother. The reason being, if I put Him first I am going to follow His Word which has a beautiful pattern of how a mother should treat her children and how a wife should treat her husband. When I am following Jesus, my family benefits. When they are following Jesus I benefit.
If my husband/children/government made me choose between them or following God what choice would I have?
I have noticed that most of your questions are along this same line. So what about you, where does Jesus fit into your life?
What are you going to do to be ready to meet your maker?

If you knew the Lord you would understand, you love your spouse and the rest of your family, we all do, well God sent his only son, to die for you and them so that who so ever will believe in him would have eternal life, plus if it wasn't for God there would be no you, no spouse, no family, and no wonderful earth, with all its wonders to enjoy. let me tell you as wonderful as the earth is ,and the creatures in nature, we are living in a garbage dump compared to what Jesus has for us when we leave this world. Your love for your family will be so much stronger, if you learn to put Jesus first Amen.

The short answer is: most people who call themselves Christians don't really believe the things that come out of their own mouths.
Otherwise, they'd be rejoicing when their friends and loved ones died, since that means they're now enjoying eternal life by Jesus' side....

If you can't see it, that's fine. God gave you a free will, which means you can either accept Him, or reject Him. It's your choice and your life. Live it your way.

Its called CHOICE.
Its called FAITH.
You either have it, choose it, or don't.
Quite simple, really. Your choice, and your consequence. It's no-one else's responsibility or problem... all we wanna do is share the light.
