How damaging is it to a 14 year old girl to be told by her teacher that she would be an "attractive girl" if she lost some weight?

You need to tell someone as this is sexual harrassment. It is not okay for any teacher to make these comments to any student. You have the right to feel safe at school. Tell an adult that you trust (such as your parents) and they can take care of it, or if you feel strong enough, tell a school counselor. This teacher needs to be talked to about what is appropriate and what's not.

The teacher, in all likelihood, was "Speaking the truth in love".
The frame of mind the girl took it in may have been other than intended.
There has to be some way to express care and concern and encourage a person toward health.

Pretty darn damaging, I would say. The teacher may have meant well, but this sort of comment is really hurtful.

It is only a temporary damage to her pride.
This incident is only a piece in the puzzle on how to deal with her own life. And to cope with it.

Not the nicest thing in the world to say, but no "damage" unless the girl is a nutcase who can't let a backhanded compliment roll off her back.
