In other words, can you put yourselves in their shoes?
The "other side" being christians, muslims, atheists, etc.

I used to be on the other side too, ramjet. So I think I can see myself the way they do. Sort of makes me glad my first "Robot Devil" account was deleted. I was a bigger jerk with that account.

Yes, and the maddening part of that is the fact that no matter what I say that is so clear and evident to me, how obvious and sensible it is to me, to those who see things differently, I am just another stranger with a lot of weird ideas that they can't understand how anyone could possibly believe, which is the same as I see them. The same happens in return, from me to them, to the point that I wonder if there is any way for anyone to know what is actually true. We've all taken diifferent roads to get to where each are today, so the beliefs and opinions we hold are based on different knowledge and information that the other doesn't have. If they can be so screwed up in their thinking, as I sometimes see it, there's no objective way to know if it might just be me who's the wacko. The only comforting thing is that they're.no more capable of making that call either. This is not to say however, that I personally doubt the correctness of what I think, only to admit the need by all for at least a trace of humility.

Every now and then I take a step back and look at some of the things I read, I see, I say... and go 'wow. If they don't have a clue what I'm talking about, they're totally not getting it.'
I understand it, too. I'm good at seeing things like that. ...Drives a person crazy, though, when you thoroughly disagree with the other side.

I suppose I am the "other side" you speak of, in that I am a Christian. But to answer your question, I've never tried. Why would I want to? I believe VERY strongly that I'm right, I strive to live according to what I profess to believe. Why would I want to allow myself to be tempted into loosing what I believe?
Using different language but with the same concept, I would think that atheists, and people on "your side" would think the same way, if they are as convinced about their beliefs as I am about mine.
